Has one ever fallen from having the front wheels removed?

Yes. :(

I knew it was a possibility, seen a few horror pics but didn't realise it was such a minor weight issue like a front wheel, thought it was just numpty putting ramps too far forward?

It's nothing to do with removing the front wheels. In this particular scenario, removing the front wheels might have been enough to cause this result, but the fact is that it was lifted totally wrong.

I've had mine on 4 axle stands with not only the wheels, but the entire front end removed. Even if I'd have grabbed the underside of the front chassis and tried to tip it backwards, it definitely wouldn't have budged. Maybe Geoff Capes might be able to prove me otherwise....

What lifting points were used for this?

The same ones we tell everyone to use. You know this stuff smiley :)

I jack up one side of the car (3 in your pic), I use a block of wood and an axle stand under the front of the chassis (4 in your pic), and I use a bit of carpet/rag and an axle stand under the rear subframe (1 in your pic)

If the diffuser isn't coming off, I use the lower rear wishbone, under the area where the balljoint goes. However I'm doing anything other than a quick job, I'll always remove the diffuser and secure it under the subframe

btw, here's the youtube vid you were looking for showing how _not_ to lift a VX

As do you, but nr 1 is not stickered on the underside, and if you don´t know........ you (read Halfords spanner monkeys) use 3 and 4 and Bazinga; you have a roemanian swing.

Not having had mine lifted yet, just thinking if you had them on axle stands they will be set under the engine & I'm surmising when they have fallen off the lifts won't this be due to putting on the lift points under the chassis?
