on the road I could keep my foot flat to the floor most of the time.

Some might see that as a benefit. If you drove a turbo foot to floor, you'd wrap it round a lamp post. Maybe you could say an NA is a car to be driven at 10 tenths?
Problem with driving at 10 tenths on the road is it will often go wrong, if your at 100 percent attack and someone pulls out on you, you've got nowhere to go or nothing you can do, you just gotta hope they see you and move. Or a unexpected bump or man hole cover can spin you round. And that is for ANY car. You will always get purests harping on about the original version of a car and how the handling was ruined with later incarnations which invariably have more weight, but realistically a tubby with a good driver will handle better than a N/a with a bad one anyway. I own an N/a, and wish I'd bought a tubby.

Your best bet is to find some one local to you and ask them nicely to take you out for a spin ;) . Either that or come to one of the meets.

All down to personal preference. As already mentioned try and ask local owners to take you out.

I'd like to have a pax in a well mapped, hi power turbo on track to see how the power is delivered. I've been in Crabash's brilliant Audi conversion (375bhp ish I think) on the road but he was unable to even tickle the edges of what it is capable of. Having had the pleasure of a pax with Chill at Croft his Saab SC engine is so sweet it would take a lot to improve upon. But I like the SC power delivery, it just suits my driving style better.

And George - why so touchy? No need to be so defensive all the time. Your car is clearly fast, very well sorted and flies around the track.

fit a 4.17 gearbox to the NA and it will give a standard turbo a run for it's money  ;)

upto 20mph , lol

"Mobile chicane".... "up to 20 mph" :) ........ How very dare you!!

4.17 gearbox and lightweight fly but apart from that she's bogo.... (engine wise)

Here's a vid for reference :)

4.17 gearbox does make a big difference for reverse gear

on the straights looks like you select reverse anyway

:( Yes I know.....100+ its not the fastest I do admit :) but tbh the good thing about that engine is the torque.. She's not a rever and doesn't deliver the power in a spectacular way but its not as slow as a lot of people expect!

It does pull well, there is very little in it compared to my friends n/a exige for example.

I would love to see you try and do a big skid like this in the wet in a turbo...... would be very tricky given the power delivery / pig iron out the back ;)

I've driven NA and my stage 2 sc, passenger in a mapped tubby and a stage 4 monster. NA was great on country lanes, but as others have said, can feel underpowered on long straights. Love my stage2 sc but the power delivery is soooo smooth that it often doesn't feel as quick as it is. Both turbos I went in scared the crap out if me, I'm a crap passenger mind. Power delivery was very different. Often wonder whether I'd like the boost feeling but never driven one and reckon the sc prob suits Trackdays better for a novice like me.

Op you need to drive both to really decide what suits you, however given that you mentioned you like straight line pace then it sounds like the turbo will be the obvious choose for you. As mentioned the n/a will be great for the twisties but certainly in standard guise it does lack straight line grunt.

A ride out in one is the best way to make a decision.

I'm in Cannock with a Stage 1 Tubby that you are welcome to ride in.

The NA is a perfectly capable road car.

:thumbsup From my viewpoint, as an admittedly very tame driver, I think your impressions are quite accurate OP. Very happy with a 2.2 in my non motorway environs for 4 years, recently changed to T and have not warmed to it yet. 1st and second "feel" slow then after that when the turbo kicks in I feel the car is driving me rather than the reverse. It's early days though and the car came with turbo response issues to be ironed out so maybe all down to me having no confidence in it yet.
