Plenty of people go beyond S2 without any problems! This seems to be a bit of a confusing one though, please keep us posted and best of luck getting to the bottom of it.

Update Took it out tonight and it only has this problem in 3rd gear under hard acceleration. It also reaks of petrol and is running quite rich as at times the exhaust backfires when I'm doing an emergency start

Map ignition table checked? Missing under load? Mine did this a while, was 2nd faulty coil pack.

Map ignition table checked?

Excuse my ignorance but how do I check this? I think it is something spark related as as soon as I change the plugs the problem goes, then returns.

It's on its third coil pack now, and the last one I took off wasn't faulty and neither is this one

its not the map , but you could pull fuse 8 and reset it incase the lambda is reading air leak. how old is the fuel in there, is it ul or super? how old are the plugs and what is the gap (set at 0.7mm) and electrode condition , is there signs of water/rust around the crush washer. its usually at the point of highest load that fuel/ignition highlights any point of weakness.

No error codes

Runs on super UL

Plugs are 200 miles old and they were perfect. Still are.

Seems a strange (and annoying) one like :(

UPDATE:

I took the car to MMG where a remap was done and that seemed to remedy it.

Now it's started again; I've changed the plugs (NGK iridium .7 gapped) and fitted an OEM coil pack and the problem still persists so I know that the plugs and coil pack which were removed are perfectly fine.

It occurs under hard acceleration at about 2,800 revs in third gear. It misfires and the turbo flutters like a motherfucker.

The thing is, it doesn't happen every time.

P4cks!!

IVe just had these symptoms on mine, turned out to be the start of a failing MAP SENSOR (the sensor on top of the intercooler or chargecooler 0- whatever fitted)

Borrow one from a local VX like I did to confirm the problem.

Let me know how you get on

Mark

Give the boost solenoids a test to make sure they are functioning as they should.

You sure it's not over-boosting

I had a simular issue last year, may items changes to locate the issue and it resulted in the Boost Control Solenoid was buggered giving me symptoms you describe. Was only £23 from Courtenay Sport Ltd and a simple swap for people with small hands

Does OP_COM give live sensor readings on a turbo?  Might be a good way of monitoring a sensor to see if its faulty.

Ah I'm not sure actually. I've got an OP-COM so if after fitting the new MAP sensor it's still fcuked then I'll give that a go. Do you know what the readings should be so that I know what I'm looking for?

How much was the MAP sensor P4cks? Do you have a part number and place of order? I've been doing a bit of a spring clean/refresh given the age of the car, are they as costly as the MAF?
