It might be worth having a look for corrosion of the engine loom electrical connections, especially the new injector plugs. Get some good quality electrical contact cleaner and spray each plug, including TB, loom of doom and ECU.

Pic of spark plug someone asked for

Pic of fuel pump

I'll go out and buy some contact cleaner. I've tried a bucket load of WD40 on the loom of doom but perhaps that couldn't cut it.

Does anyone have a fuel pressure gauge with the correct fittings I can borrow to rule out the pump/fuel lines?

I had exactly this problem on a BMW M3 E46 ... We tried everything and it was doing it at around 2000rpm and it went when the revs went up so it wasn't a lack of fuel or spark.. It was the top end ! It turned out to be a mechanical fault. It was a sticky valve at low revs

I see the valves have been replaced but I wonder if a valve stem is damaged? Though a proper examination of the electrical side should be done before removing the head!

When I replaced the valves they all moved very nicely in the stems.

No corrosion spotted on the injector plugs, loom of doom, TB or ECU.

I've now sprayed each with proper contact cleaner.

The problem persists.

Can anyone recommend an auto electrician in the Warwickshire area who could take a look for me?

Exhaust silencer has been rattling for a while. I assumed it was the heat shield poorly fitted and/or a problem with the cat. After having removed the cats innards and the heat shield the rattle is still present. Is there any remote possibility that there could be enough of a blockage in the silencer to cause a misfire at gentle throttle??? Tried running the engine without the silencer on but its do damn loud to tell if it still misfires. FYI it's a milltek silencer that looks to have previously been opened and welded up at some point.

My old Milltek was welded up a couple of times . They do not last over stage 2.

NA Milltek box gets destroyed with a SC. the box has vertical plates spot welded top and bottom which eventually fail and, in my case, caused a rattle. You should be able to see where the plates are welded by looking at the box and if the weld is still in tact. Taking the box off and shaking it will either eliminate or confirm the box as a source of the rattle. Alternatively just take the rear diffuser off and give the box a good thump. Mine was very evidently shagged with this approach

I've just been and had a look at techieboy's car and he's got spacers between his fuel rail and head.

Did a quick search and there seems to be a bit of disagreement about whether they're needed or not. Can anyone confirm this?

The car came with what I think were VX220T injectors (long thin shape), it now has Siemens 60lbs injectors which are the same size and shape.

fitting the grey injector spacers and the alloy fuel rail spacers with the Siemans injectors means that the fuel injector loom plugs fit much better, otherwise you can sometimes get a bad electrical connection

Still having this problem.

Fitted a Walbro 255 pump, full 3" tullett exhaust with HJS cat, a wideband O2 sensor and 2.8" pulley.

Vocky came to time up my cams in case they were slightly off as power seemed pretty low when I had it on the rollers (276bhp - was expecting around 300).

Seems to have more power than before the cam timing was done but still stutters and misfires like a pig around 2k.

Any more ideas????

Have you done a re learn since Retiming ?? There is also a new version of the software which double checks the tables before making them perminant Well worth doing a relearn where you stutter is and applying and making perminant with new version of software
