regardless of power , with a track setup we have the same limit of grip , which is where the drivers skill part comes in

Same level of grip, but not the same weight.  The cast iron Z20 block is very noticeable on track.  My moment of clarity occured at the National weekend a couple of years ago.  I'd driven Lee's supercharged car, which is utterly sublime on track.  I started having dark thoughts.

On the way home, I hit the loud pedal up a steep lane out of a Welsh village and realised I couldn't live without the turbo.  Conclusion, track only, supercharger is out front.  Road, turbo.

Turbo = a lot more fun than s/c, which I think are what these cars are about personally unless your chasing lap time then S/c

This isn't exactly like for like ? Lees car has got wide tyres and a ton of aero on for a start of course its going to feel more nimble.

I doubt the weight difference between a turbo and an SC is really that much? The sc boys harp on about the weight of the cast iron lump but conveniently forget to mention all the weight they've added by sc'ing in the first place!

I disagree with this... I have never in my SC struggled on a hill...

I think its personal preference all the way..

HAHA what a load of sh*t. I have never come home after driving my SC and thought it was not fun...

The SC parts combine to a net weight increase of 25-30kg dependant on pre-rad size / header tank etc. I weighed them previously during a conversion. An equivalent turbo with chargecooler (+15kg) will still weigh around 40kg more if we are just talking about published kerb weights.

That doesn't tell anything like the whole story, as a SC with average suspension / set-up / tyres will be comprehensively outperformed by a +40kg turbo with good suspension set-up / tyres, so its all a bit willy-wavey-ish..

Your replay has no basis of fact or judgement in respect of the OP's question. An out there comment "turbo = a lot more fun" does not help anybody..

There's only one way to resolve this. S/C owners vs. Turbo owners, in a KY Jelly fight, naked. I'll watch.

Ive had a VX turbo with ~300bhp and now have an SC with ~270bhp. The former was certainly more exciting to drive. In the wet it was like playing Russian roulette though, tickling the throttle. The mapping was awful and with an MMG remap, ran much better. On a dry road it was freakin hilarious fun. The SC is a lot more civilised in terms of its power delivery, but is a lot more usable/abuseable as a result. I do miss the maniacal power of the turbo when the road is right and the weather is nice. However, the SC is reeaaal sweet.

 Mark you don't have one now

I went out back to back in a very high power Turbo followed by a run in a very high power SC on Anglesey and the difference was unbelievable. For me personally the SC was in a different league, I loved it but having a stage four for a few week that surge of acceleration is addictive. It's a bit of a daft question asking which is better I suppose. Which is better a good Indian or a good Chinese

If you want a big boost hit  of power go Turbo if you want a progresive more usable boost of power go supercharged ,i have yet to go out in a very well mapped turbo, and if i do it will be mapped to feel like a supercharged car lol

I have never driven any sort of Supercharged car so I suppose my view is pretty irrelevant.

But, I used to have a Cosworth engined Kit Car that weighed 670kgs and had 320bhp. It was quite low geared and would leave a silly smile on my face whenever I planted the pedal. However,......

It was a point and squirt car, didn't need any gear other than 5th, so heel and toeing (which to me is Sports car driving) was pretty pointless and it didn't go round corners that easily as you felt the car could be bumped off line at any moment. Any crash was probably certain death.

Contrast this with my VX which is a joy to drive, is sublime to handle down a nice B road is very quick but not a ballistic and puts a much bigger smile on my face.

I know I'm comparing apples with pears here but the blower of choice I don't think is the biggest issue, and whether your car has 310bhp or 340bhp doesnt realy matter. The point of these is to have utter and complete fun and whilst acceleration delivers that it only forms part of the ingredients to bake that cake and without great brake performance or wonderful, communicative handling become a bit one dimensional on its own.

My car is a Stage 3 MMG mapped Tubby with upgraded brakes, wheels and suspension for reference.

Best of both worlds perhaps? 2.2 turbo Small turbo for n/a or sc like powerband.... 270ish bhp and comes in at about -10kg when finished lol. Serious... drive both and pick one.
