That's them all cut and one assembled. I fecked up two of the fronts by measuring the spacing between the screw holes wrong :( so they got recycled into some of the brackets on the top. I have another interesting vx project to start, something very different, from the same cfk material, so I'll order some extra and make a couple more of these, but they'll not be getting done until month end. Just need to see how the costs work out as I brought this stuff home from Daytona in my baggage, but actually shipping it to the UK is about $100 postage on top, plus I'll get hit for import tax.

These are heat formed and pressed as it's quite a tough material. I used to make lots of carbon fibre stuff but can't be assed with the mess any more. This lets me make very small runs or one offs for ppl without moulds, resins and worst of all sanding. Nothing on that link btw.

Pic in the last post shows the batch assembled and ready for some tidying up. Don't think I actually made any money, but I enjoyed making them. If you've bought one this is important..... I've found the aluminium centre braces can have up to a 10mm gap at one end in some VXs so there must be differences in the gear consoles. I changed the angle of the sides to account for this and to try and pre-empt any other differences I haven't trimmed the ones I'm sending you right back, especially the facia so you'll have to sand or cut them to suit your car. I'll throw some cuttings in with each one so you can mess around cutting the material. It can be sanded, cut with tinsnips, bandsaw, jigsaw etc. As mentioned before I've made the facia 70mm top and 50mm at the bottom, the centre brace parts are also tapered front to back for leg room. The gauges I tried are quite shallow, but if you have deep gauges you can cut the straps top and bottom to take the taper out of the sides. If you need a bigger front eg for a 60mm gauge, let me know and I'll make one up.

Thanks for the great PMs I had on these. I've got some more material from the states to make steering wheel inserts and probably another few centre braces over the next couple of weeks. Any that don't sell by PM I'll pop on eBay for our speedster friends to pick up :)

A final update on these after a few requests.

Quite a few ppl wanted very wide fronts to suit various displays so ice a few of the original units left over if anyone wanted one.

Also here is a pic of one fitted...

The other things asked for was if they could be cut out like the alloy brace, for looks, but also when I made these I used digital gauges that were only 35mm deep. If you have long mechanical gauges they foul the triangle indentations. Anyone with this issue I've made them a new wider front, but if you want to keep the nice thin original lines you can cut out the triangles like so...

Cut the straps in the middle

Posted Image

Drill a hole in the middle of a triangle and cut out with tinsnips or jigsaw roughly.

Posted Image

Use a block with some course sandpaper to flatten the edges. (Can be sone with an electric sander too)

Posted Image

Like so.

The finished sides should look like this.

Posted Image

Which will allow deeper mechanical gauges.

If you don't want to do this, as mentioned just let PM me about getting a wide front :)
