No , the rear needs a 225 45 17 F1 Asymmetric 2 , different tread pattern.

Anybody able to confirm that the asymmetric 2's on the rear are fine to run with the gsd3 on the front? Thanks in advance

Anything is fine to run along side anything. Just remember though that grip levels and tyre characteristics will be different from front to rear, unless your a driving God I'll doubt you'll notice much difference between the two 👍, my head exploded with tyre choice, my 12 year old spare Bridgestones were still grippy whilst I decided which tyres to go for.

I run these on my VX and can confirm they feel pretty good. The grip in the wet is better than the Bridgestones they replaced...........not tried them in snow yet though!

Seem also to cope well with the recent upgrade (Supercharged - 250 bhp / 223 lbft) with not much wheelspin when I give it some welly.

Recommended.

They're absolute fine, I've been running these tyres with the different tread pattern for years in all conditions and on track with no problems what so ever.

Goodyear discontinued GSD3's in 225's. That's why we run the Asymmetric 2's on the rears. They're a very similar tyre, just a different tread pattern You can still get GSD3's in 195/45/17 because they fit them to Suzuki Swifts and a few other hatches.

I've just had a new set fitted this morning, I paid £95 each for GSD3's fitted .

Hope that helps.

It's been generally accepted for as long as I can remember that usually on any given rim size you can go two sizes larger or smaller and I've always run larger tyres on all my cars if only for the convenience of avoiding curbed rims.  I've had 195's on the vx fronts for years without problem.

Tyre fitters often talk tosh in my experience and their recommendations are  often influenced by the possibility of comeback if something goes wrong.

Just had a conversation with a local tyre place and the guy there said that 195s were a bad idea on the 175 rims...

"An emergency direction change could result in the tyre popping off the rim".  He couldn't recommend it and wouldn't commit to fitting them until he'd seen the tyres and wheels!

Watching this thread with interest as I'm due new rears and don't want to lose the OEM alloys. However, I do not want different tread patterns. That's unnaceptable on a sports car to me personally. Hopefully I can find a better solution than the standard RE040,s? Cheers Jon

on the 5.5j rim , could try a 205/40 , the Bridgestone Potenza RE002

I just put a set on the front of the Porsche as I did not want a run-flat Potenza design

Why? Consider the fact that the front and rear axles are doing completely different jobs its a nonsensical point of view.

In the instance whereby the tyres were developed to work on a specific vehicle i.e the RE040's were developed both front and rear specifically for the VX220 but as soon as you move away from that specific tyre there is simply no synergy in having front and rear the same.

Take a minute to think about it and you simply can't come to the conclusion that having different front and rear is a requirement when you move away from the O.E tyres (or LTS equivalents).

and the utter reality of even picking different DOT coded tyres will be totally undetectable to 99.999% of drivers too

I don't get why,the fronts and rears do different jobs.
