Decided to have a go at my headlights as they had split open, had loads or rubble rash and all the black edges had gone brown and crazed..... I split and re sealed them with tape from Elise parts and finished with tiger seal. The lenses I did by wet and dry sanding first with 600, then 1200 and finally 2500. Next I polished with G3 and machine polished with meguiars ultimate compound. Just need to deal with yacht sealant and wax them. Really happy with the results, they look pretty much like new!

Looks good, how long start to finish did it take? My O/S light holds a small swimming pool every time it rains so will be looking to do something similar!

Cheers. Splitting and cleaning all the old sealant off took a bit of time. Maybe a few hours. Wet and dry was maybe an hour or two and polishing etc wasn't long maybe 30 mins. I did it over a few days though. I let the tape deal with clamps on for a couple of days and the tiger seal for another 24 hours.

That's awesome, I really want to polish mine as it looks like the lacquer is peeling. Was your's peeling?

Cheers! Yeah it was. It's worth a go. I sort of took the "they can't look any worse" attitude!

I asume your yacht sealant will include UV protection?

I will probably give it a go, did you hand sand it?

Yeah the sealant does and I've put carnuba wax on too. I did hand sand them. It's a sort of slowly does it thing.

Might be being a bit thick here, but what is the yacht sealant for?

Uv protection to try and keep them looking good! Any sealant which give uv protection will do. I've just found this one to last for ages.

The coating you sanded off also had impact resistance as well as UV protection, so expect them to chip a lot more.

At the end of the day they were looking pretty bad and this was a lot cheaper than new lenses so I'll see how they go and if it only delays new lenses for a while I'm happy. I suppose I could wrap them with something like armourfend?

You'll get a lot more diffusion if you do that. Just see how they hold up.

Light scattering, which increases glare and reduces beam intensity.

There seems to be more to these plastic lenses than meets the eye.

I was thinking the same!

I got mine ventured shielded which was part of the package when I got the front end and sills done, would of thought that is the best solution to help stopping stone chips and scratches on the lenses.
