I've had an idea, instead of venture shield etc, how about spraying lacquer on them? I'm going to have a search, maybe there is already a purpose paint available.

Has anyone else had this foam stuff on the head light? One of mine has it and the other doesn't so I'm curious if it should be there?

The foam part was on later headlamps so yours has either had one added or you've lost one from the other side.  You can buy the foam piece from a dealer for a whopping 44 quid!  Come as part of the headlamp 'kit' they will often try to sell you.

Hmm, I'm going to look on ebay for something similar.

This is grey and 1mm wider, same thickness. Colour shouldn't be a problem because it's hidden.

Just ordered some.

I just cut a strip off of a 1.5mm sheet of self adhesive foam. Helps take some pressure off the lens when fitted. Just reseated my lamps after fitting my fezza lenses with butyl tape. Might not need the foam if you used tape as the lens doesn't fit as close to the lamp housing compared to using tiger seal, which I used last time.

Thanks for the advice, I'm not taking my lenses apart, just bought some tiger seal online with a syringe. Will run that around both lenses to hopefully stop water ingress.

Don't bother replacing it, it does nothing. Just don't tighten the lights up too tight (especially the rears as it pulls the lens apart). If you've stuck tiger seal around the edge it does kinda the same job. My fronts have been in over a year after splitting and the tiger seal edging works brilliantly. And now I wait for my lenses to pop off

Now you said it

I've already ordered it so I'm going to feel compelled to use it now, only a few quid. May stop a bit less water getting in there.

I'd still split them and get the crap out of them tbh. It's a 10 minute job, oven, split, clean, re-seal. You'll just keep looking at them and wondering why you didn't do that. And so much harder once you've stuck tiger seal around them.

I'd split them too. It's not a massive job and any of the moisture on the inside is going to leave some reside.

I'll give it some thought. I really don't want to clean all the sealant off and try to refit them in the exact place. Some people have said it's really difficult and can take hours of trial and error.

Decided to have a go at my headlights as they had split open, had loads or rubble rash and all the black edges had gone brown and crazed..... I split and re sealed them with tape from Elise parts and finished with tiger seal. The lenses I did by wet and dry sanding first with 600, then 1200 and finally 2500. Next I polished with G3 and machine polished with meguiars ultimate compound. Just need to deal with yacht sealant and wax them. Really happy with the results, they look pretty much like new!

Did you sand both inside and outside of the lens? What was the condition of the inside of your lens like?

I didn't do the insides as they just needed a quick clean, and yes I used that tape and then some tiger seal as well.

Thank you. If they just needed cleaning I probably won't bother going to the hassle of splitting them, the insides look fairly clean, besides a couple of water marks here and there.

Sorry to bother you again, when you split the headlights, did you put them in the oven? If so what temperature did you use and did you remove all the electrics first?

Thanks.
