I've just done a quick check & this car was recorded as Cat B in December 2013 & is recorded as being scrapped.

Something fishy going on?

I've read all of this thread and the ebay description. Nowhere does the seller say this can be put back on the road, in fact he says it can be used as a track car or used for parts to repair a cat D car.

I cant see anything fishy going on, as someone else said the insurance company probably couldnt be arsed to collect and sell the car and left the owner to dispose of it. There's no subterfuge going on.

It's only in this thread that he talks about track car or stripping for parts. The ebay and PH adds make no mention of this. I know it's 'buyer beware' but I just think the adds should make it clear and also explain why this wasn't scrapped.

I don't want to butt heads with people because it's pretty academic (and I'm the noob here!) plus for the most part it's entirely correct (and in principle quite a sensible working basis) but a catB (even catA!) can be re-registered in the UK. The dvla can clear a catB and reissue a v5, and if you look at the stats, there's a staggeringly large number of catB cars registered and driving around. There has to be quite a few factors and a bit of luck at play to let it occur, but it is possible and legal should circumstances be right. That said, its playing with fire, and not something I would take for granted.

Edit... The above was correct up to the end of October. From november though, with the abolishment of the VIC program, I'm not sure what that means. It seems that catC no longer need it to get their v5 issued, and for cat B and A it might now be tougher, or even impossible. It's not exactly clear how (if) that works now. http://www.trents.co...cheme-abolished

Possibly a Q registration then?

from the above link - previously any Cat car could have been put back on the road, even a cat A. Now a cat A or B cannot get a logbook

The VIC scheme applied to all Cat A, B & C vehicles that were looking to be returned to the road.

From October 1st the VIC scheme has been abolished for Cat C vehicles (unless a VIC test slot has already been booked in) with Cat A & B vehicles being unable to obtain a V5 certificate after the 26th October.

But Vocky, someone somewhere on the internets, with no actual proof said it was possible....

(and no its not a dig at the latest addition to my list :P as there is more than one person claiming a B can go back on the road despite the evidence to the contray)

Roll Up!...Roll Up 5k and rising...im surprised i thought it was going to stay at the 4k mark or at least until the last day, auction still has 7 days to go.

even at 5k would make a great track car, with plenty of power.

I'm still at a loss as to why someone would claim their insurance for a set of mats.

Surprised it's passed the £5k mark already. I really can't see how that will be recouped. Remember this being discussed on here a while back. The pics have gone now but I remember the damage to the interior was fairly extensive. Everyone laughed when he said he wanted £6k for it back then. Looks like he's going to prove us all wrong. http://www.vx220.org...-damaged-tubby/

This is nuts, I've seen the car in person and it's a lot worse than a set of mats claws haha! 😂
