The conclusion from all of the above posts is that Lotus and Bilstein had it right from the box and everything else is marketed to remove the pounds from your pocket.

^^^ Yeah that. How can you argue with so many years of experience and R&D. It's the reason I decided to source new VXT dampers and oem spring rate springs. Only problem I came across was finding new VXT front springs (without being bum raped by Vauxhall) and so very slightly compromised by going with Exige S2 front springs which are very very slightly softer.

Odd that the conclusion for the Quantum Zeros are they are too hard. I'm really happy with mine. I've had a fast road geo on the car, and it feels planted at speed, and the comfort levels are far superior to the Billies I took off (albeit they were VXR Billies).

I'm really happy with them, it's just the annoying mice which are getting on my tits.

So Horace

Have you found a solution yet? I, like you, couldnt get any Bilstein replacements and bought some Gaz adjustables but they give a poor ride compared to the Bilsteins. I tried softening the setting only to get the suspensions crashing out on bumpy roads. Im also still looking for a solution .The Exige Bilsteins may sound like a solution.

There was a post on here somewhere some time ago which I can't for the life of me find where someone said they'd had issues with the stiffness of the Quantums.  The poster eventually opted for much softer spring rates and said Elise Parts said they were the 'softest Quantum springs they'd ever supplied', or at least that's what I recall, but could be wrong.

I have 300 front 400 rear on my N/A with Gaz golds and the ride is very acceptable for everyday use. Previously the rates were 375 front and 450 rear but the front felt to stiff. I have the hanger 111 updated anti-roll on fully stiff to compensate for the softer springs.

Hi Struts,

I bought a set of 4 original bilstein dampers when that Lotus parts auction thingy was going on. Just need the springs.  I recently tried to source Eibach springs to the original spec.  Phoned Eibach, who said they no longer make them.  Phoned Elise Parts who said they can't get them.

Anyone know where I can get the damn springs from??

I bought some of the complete bilsein damper units from the Motorsport auction site, they were supposed to be for an NA but came with 271/371 springs, I'm guessing they may have been vxr units? Anyway I am finding them a bit harsh so I'm going to be switching my standard springs over to these dampers in a couple of weeks. Assuming this leads to a setup that is no worse the 271/371 would become available, let me know if they might be of interest to you.

Can't you just buy some springs from faulkener in the right length and poundage?

When replacing my OEM Bilsteins with new Bilsteins, I had the original springs media blasted then repainted with epoxy spray paint.

The tricky part it that the std spring rates are too soft for track. So those who want to drive mainly on the road but occasionally on track are in a tricky middle ground. 100% Road is easy, just go original dampers.... If you can find them. They were purely specified for road use with spring rates and valving to match. But accept that they can loose gas pressure or oil as quickly as 2-3years. The quantums Zeros, nitron Street series etc are being asked to cover a massive range, from light Road spring rates to trackday use. Is it worth me trying to come up with a copy of the original billies? Maby talk with quantum and work on a new valving?

I got the exige billies and am very happy with them, although the front sits slightly higher the extra ground clearance suits me living up a farm road 😬

I too bought some of the lotus auction OEM dampers which I believe are too stiff. I've got my original dampers boxed up. I'm guessing it would be cheaper to refurb the original springs and get them fitted to the new bodies? Or just send off the old dampers for refurb? Is swapping the springs between the dampers a specialist job or can any garage do it?
