I too bought some of the lotus auction OEM dampers which I believe are too stiff. I've got my original dampers boxed up. I'm guessing it would be cheaper to refurb the original springs and get them fitted to the new bodies? Or just send off the old dampers for refurb? Is swapping the springs between the dampers a specialist job or can any garage do it?

I bought some motorbike spring compressors and removed the old springs myself. It's straightforward, the only thing that worried me was trying to separate the corroded spring seats whilst the spring was compressed, they needed a few good whacks. I had the springs blasted and coated at a local coating place for £60. Even if they remain firm it should improve the ride height.

How are Faulkner Springs, are they decent? Obviously with various spring rates available, its something that can be swapped in and out depending on if you want track or road set up.

They were recommended by scuffers.. Need I say more? I've got some on the back of my car and they're doing what I'd expect of a spring. I think they're the default choice for anyone looking for after market springs.

It's fairly easy to do yourself with a suitable set of spring compressors and will save a lot of ££s

I did the same as 909 and Bazakan and had the original springs blasted and coated.  They're nothing more than a twisted bar, there's not much to go wrong!

I'm intrigued by those who bought new and found the spring rates too harsh, where these the units listed as NA and sold complete?

Thanks for that.

Does anyone know what the spring dimensions are for a turbo?  Using faulkner website....

I'm guessing 2.5" diameter, but not sure on length.  Obviously the rear springs are longer than the fronts).

I don't have access to the car as it is in the paint shop.

Any help would be appreciated.

Alternatively, it could simply show just how degraded their original units were.

Just measured some brand new unfitted oem Turbo rear springs and they are 9.75 inches. I've a set of Exige S2 front springs new and unfitted and they are 8.75 inches.

Thanks for that.  I'd appreciate it if you could confirm the internal diameters of both for me  thumbsup

Maybe I missed something. Horace , are you sure yours are set up correctly? Like I said my quantums are quite comfy. With the progressive rear springs and fast Road geo it handles well and is not crashy or too firm.

Kin ell Horice you like it soft ! I've got the zeros with the higher rated progressive springs on my NA with 115/120 height and love them to bits. Maybe you just need a cushion to sit on 👍😂 How many miles and what condition are the old ones, it's not supposed to be a soft comfy French saloon type ride. Maybe they had just got very soft with no damping and you won't get that back.

Ouch! I think a lot of it is down to lots of the cars running their original suspension, which might be leaking or have poor valving, and either way is 10-15 years old. Compared to a knackered billie anything will feel firm so maybe that's why it's dividing opinion and feel.

I drove DaveMate's car and that had very soft springs and dampers and a standard ride height. It also had stiff anti roll bars. The ride was sublime, as was the grip as you could really feel the grip of the inside wheels due to the anti roll bars.

When I do a refresh of my suspension I'm thinking of having the same setup.

I've got all of the same kit sat here in the garage after taking it all off my car - front and rear adjustable ARB's and the custom valved and sprung Nitron NTR's. Was nice on the road but I think it was ultimately compromised on track, or at least my use of it was, though I'm still not entirely convinced by the dual rate springs on the Quantum's either.
