I have been looking at posts regarding ITBs on and off for a while now and a lot of the posts end up in an ITB vs SC debate.

If we ignore for a second that superchargers exist:

What stages are there for ITBs i.e. Stage 1, 2 etc; what's the rough cost for each stage and how much power/torque can you expect?

Also, what's the reliability, economy, throttle response (most important to me), rpm limit (second most important) for each stage?

Lastly, are you thinking of selling an ITB'd car soon.

Thank you :)

Stage tuning is bollocks anyway. It's all marketing.

I have heard other say that, just want to know what options there are.

I think just the webcon kit gets 170bhp

Then you get into cams, double valve springs, rods, etc which is what I'm trying to find out about.

Also, I believe the ITBs are supposed to have good throttle response which is something I'm looking for.

But I could be wrong about all of this.

I am sure that it sounds good though :)

Talk to Vocky.

Say you want the 250bhp kit.

Hand over your wallet to him.

Pick it up end of year.

Life is good.

For the itb's to work well it's worth getting a decent exhaust 2.5" and manifold. Then you want cams/springs and the head porting and skimming to increase compression. While the head is off fit improved rods for reliable high rpm. You will then have 220 ish Bhp and around 170 ft/lb. not sure on costs but not cheap maybe 4-5k (not including the exhaust and manifold) depending on how much work you can do yourself and the current cost of the itb kit.

I think 7800 would be the safe limit for a 2.2.

That's really helpful, thanks. Would be good to get the Z22se to have similar characteristics to a BMW S54 engine. Lovely engine.

Mine has stage 2 comp cams, supertech springs, balancer delete and a 2.5" tullet de-cat exhaust. It has a soft limit at 7800 and hard at 7900 and has 174 at the hubs if TDi are to be believed and 158 if Advanced at Silverstone are to be believed, I think nearer the latter

Soft limiter, that's cool I thought only new or high end cars had them. No ITBs then?

Don't underestimate the importance of an "open" ECU even if you're not interested in messing about with the calibration. Mine hasn't turned a wheel in 18 mths, mainly because various small niggles that could easily be solved with ECU access mean a trip on a trailer to Northampton and because I've lost the love I CBA.

this pretty much sums up the ITB route

I am unsure how much the Webcon ITB kit costs these days. It certainly will be over £2.5k and coupled with a good full exhaust at £1.5k means you have then spent £4k without even touching the engine.

Stage 2 or 3 cams, better valve springs and raising the CR to 11:1 works very well on the ITB engines. I would also advise to fit a 4.17 final drive gearbox - code SG

Could you update the ITB part of the silly vx tuning chart Vocky?

(was thinking of updating it to 2016 spec/technology/pricing estimates)

So £6-7k including the engine?
