The new webcon alpha 5 is a joy to use and I'm happy to remap on that.

Is it "open" now?

if so then atleast they have joined 1999  :D

When you say open do you mean anyone can adapt it?

For the itb's to work well it's worth getting a decent exhaust 2.5" and manifold. Then you want cams/springs and the head porting and skimming to increase compression. While the head is off fit improved rods for reliable high rpm. You will then have 220 ish Bhp and around 170 ft/lb. not sure on costs but not cheap maybe 4-5k (not including the exhaust and manifold) depending on how much work you can do yourself and the current cost of the itb kit.

this pretty much sums up the ITB route   I am unsure how much the Webcon ITB kit costs these days. It certainly will be over £2.5k and coupled with a good full exhaust at £1.5k means you have then spent £4k without even touching the engine.   Stage 2 or 3 cams, better valve springs and raising the CR to 11:1 works very well on the ITB engines. I would also advise to fit a 4.17 final drive gearbox - code SG

So £6-7k including the engine?

probably around that figure

However the question really should be ... is it worth spending all that to go ITB

Oh yeah :D

you simply cannot beat the sound they produce

Does it sound good at part throttle also, or do you need WOT to get it singing. The S54 in the Z4 sounds amazing but you have to WOT it before you get the sound, not many places you can use WOT for more than 6 seconds.

Don't underestimate the importance of an "open" ECU even if you're not interested in messing about with the calibration. Mine hasn't turned a wheel in 18 mths, mainly because various small niggles that could easily be solved with ECU access mean a trip on a trailer to Northampton and because I've lost the love I CBA.

What colour is your car you CBA with?
It's an LY, so yellow. Having owned it for 12 years I haven't given much thought to selling it though.

Oakie doak. You obviously love it a bit. Just took the Z4M out for a spin and have to say the S54 engine is absolutely amazing, it gets better the better I know it, stops better than anything I've ever driven before and holds the corners pretty good. Really comfortable, sound system is good and everything is covered in leather. Can't figure out why I miss the VX220 so much and why I found it more fun even though it's less comfortable, slower and doesn't stop well when it's wet. Uncanny little car.

I wonder how an ITB 2.2 in a light car compares to a 3.2 ITB in a relatively heavy car.

8000 rpm... That's very cool :) it may be above my budget but I'll have to see what I get for the Z4M first.
