Hi guys, Swapped the accelerator pedal and got throttle control back. Still throwing up an intermittent P1635 and P0405 which cut the throttle. After logging live data with OpCom it appears that the EGR position command dies just before the ECU goes into limp home mode. Seeing as the EGR is one of the components that is sent the 5V reference signal (P1635) and P0405 relates directly to the EGR pin A, I'd suspect my EGR cheater is internally knackered or the wiring is duff. Got a new one coming so will update if this solves the problem then the beast is going up for sale!

Ah, my EGR has been removed, I wonder if this is my problem also!

I would pull that EGR cheater out (and maybe loose fit an EGR back) to see if you then only get an EGR fault. ;-)

I would do that if my cheater wasn't the cut and solder type! Cheater is just taking ages to arrive annoyingly but I'm quietly confident that's the issue now. Very obscure cause though in my opinion!

What are your symptoms? Also what does your cheater look like? Mine is one of the sealed ones with red, green, blue and white wires on eBay. Looks like a squid. If it's that that's the problem it's lasted about 18 months of being driven daily.

I don't actually know which one! it was done before I bought the car and I haven't had a good look to see what one it is. Will check it out at the weekend

Throttle started occasionally cutting out but would be fine after a few seconds or a restart. Slowly got worse until I decided it was unsafe to drive as throttle cutting mid corner would be scary! Now it runs very rough with no throttle at all.

I haven't driven it much in the last 6 months but now I have moved and its in a garage I'm setting about sorting it.

I think part of the problem is it's been kept outdoors until now with only a cover so has probably got a bit damp too so drying it out currently.

New EGR cheater fitted, wiring was still fine on the old one, but when I cut it open I found the PCB had a lot of crusty solder and deposits on it. Looked really shagged. Drove 7 or 8 miles today allowing the car to warm up nicely and varying my throttle inputs. No throttle cut outs! So far!

I still have very little trust in the car at the moment but hope I can regain that trust driving it to work every day whilst it is now for sale on Pistonheads :)
