Would the matt have to go all the way to the end of the tank as it seems to absorb the fuel and in effect give you my fuel than the canister can hold

You would be only able to fit a small mat

Here's is a photo

This is where the fuel pump canister goes so the space is quite limited if you wanted to fit one of those mats Not sure if it's stepped actually I will go check

Na that is the bottom of the tank, the baffle plate allows fuel to come down the sides into the pump section

Here Frank (exmantaa) reported that his spitfire pump drained the pro alloy tank completely dry (first hand info)

Funny how these things affect each other.

So would adding a couple extra one way valves help the situation then? As if so I can get the design adapted :)

In another topic they mention that oem tank is a few mm tilted, so fuel flows to the pump. (where pro alloy is leveled)

There is a few mm play when fitting the tank so couldn't you just angle the tank with those few mm?

i would say a bigger cannister would be more effective but everything would have limits

What's also worthwhile thinking about is if the fuel level sensor is working correctly with the new tank . E.g does the pro alloy baffles make you think you have more or less fuel

Here is a photo of pro alloy baffles

The rest of the tank has anti surge foam in

When I bought my car off Alex at Pro-Alloy, he mentioned that he was designing the next VX220 fuel tank to have some one way ball valves and a small surge reservoir on the left hand side of the tank. I wonder why this didn't make it to production.

The Holly hydromat looks a good solution TBH, so long as you can hook it up to the exiting fuel pump.

Mines fine for all the tracks I've been to except zandvoort going up the hill just after the long left handed ( still turning left up the hill )
It's fine if I keep 11 litres + in the tank

GST 450-k pump here

Same here.

I get starvation going up the hill following the left hander at turn 3, and on the straight after the left hander at turn 9.

a angled baffle which only goes half way up the tank would be a good idea so the fuel can still get in to the area easily and not back to the right hand side of tank easily

I agree, a simple solution like that would suffice. I'm not sure why it hasn't been done TBH.

Myself and a friend may be making a new fuel tank for his VX220 soon. I'll start a blog if we do.

How would a angled baffle only going half way up help when the tank is really low on fuel?

How would a angled baffle only going half way up help when the tank is really low on fuel?

It acts as a flow restriction, trapping a gallon or so of fuel in the left side. With a few small holes in it to allow the level to equalise between the left and right side of the baffle when driving in a roughly straight line.

It's a standard design for oil sump baffles etc and reduces the fabrication complexity, cost and and risk of failure of either a hinge or ball valve.

The original vx baffle allows fuel to come round either side (like pro alloy) along with a big hole in the top half of the section and smaller holes in the bottom Which is why I'm struggling to see why a half angled baffle plate would work better
