Because it's a le9 gen 3 block so strong enough for 600 hp straight out the factory.
Slightly interestingly, I've a Gen 2 LE9 block, which isn't sand cast and has liners.

You have a Le5 block which is gen 2. Same as the b207 but a 88mm bore size instead.Slightly interestingly, I've a Gen 2 LE9 block, which isn't sand cast and has liners.Because it's a le9 gen 3 block so strong enough for 600 hp straight out the factory.

Nice uniform water jacket at the top of the cylinders.

This is what hopefully makes its stronger and no need for liners.Nice uniform water jacket at the top of the cylinders.

And the Gen 3 liners are cast-in, so no liner change possible...
Aha. Thanks.
Was wondering what to do with my own "new" block. Change liners, honing or boring. But it was a case of apples and pears I guess

No oil cooler on this block ?
Posted 17 May 2017 - 01:46 PM
The 2.4 has no oil cooler standard (like the Z22SE). So install a Z22SE oil cooler plate, or better drill and tap 2 new oil cooler connections. (1x return hose and 1x oil pressure sender)

The actual technical literature / blurb for the LE5/9 engine (2.4) states there is no requirement for an oil cooler (being noted as an advantage for efficiency, supposedly), although this is in its original application, not a sports car..
I reused the standard VX220 oil cooler arrangement on my 2.4.

This is what il be getting done with tapping two holes, so there is no need for the stupid metal oil rings ever again 😁The 2.4 has no oil cooler standard (like the Z22SE). Haggi, I think you are wise to elect for a good home made oil cooler setup on a big power engine. I have always suspected my oil gets too hot and wish I had a non OEM cooler in mine.

pistons and rods
fitted into block
crank added, it has an internal 5+2 trigger wheel
and the base plate added, also drilled and tapped for the oil pressure switch and oil cooler take off

Do I spot a specific machining on the pistons to clear out the oil squirters ?

they are JE Pistons and came ready to fit
These LE5 oil squirters are the later tube type

What are the red circles ?
just to show the crank balancing marks are aligned. They are added to the photo, not the engine

thought it would be something like that
