For the last year its has only been working on #3 highest, but today even that has failed.

 

So taking the statement from Fezz below from an earlier thread

 

"There isn't a speed controller on the fan. It's simply two 25 watt resistors wired so that the lowest speed setting runs through both, middle through one and high bypasses. they then feed into a connector to the fan. I'd start checking that connector and the neutral line coming off the fan."

 

1. It would seem that the resistors are knackered, these can be replaced without too much trouble, just time and ripped knuckles getting it out.

 

and

 

2. Something else is knackered. Would this be the fan itself, it had started to be noisier? If so then what type/product of fan should one be looking at as a replacement?

 

or

3. What else could be broken or needs to be investigated?

 

(NB. Wiring and connectors all seem fine, there is power to the fan)

The resistor will have failed, also the fan cowling usually goes too over time.

Take a look at the fan which is under the little radiator part.

Don’t muck about with anything else than the T7. Far superior to the crappy OEM and loads better than the Fez! Especially if you really want one that works!

I regret to say I have to agree with the young one above.  There's so much wrong with the Fez heater you'd be better off starting afresh.

Found it above, question is now the car has the Fez heater will it take a t7 or has it been modified away from the OEM unit too much?

Thankyou everyone for your input, and suggestions to upgrade to a T7.

 

Does anyone though have a Fezz heater and the Fan part product code.

 

At this moment in time a quick change of resistors and "possibly" a swap out of the fan will not take as much time nor money as installing the T7, which of course would have to be my final option.

 

Extrapilot, your leaking Fezz heater probably needs the heater matrix swapping out to stop the leak, cost about £10, fix time about 1 hour

Just as a side note, I don't have a Fez heater but they are all surely a good couple of years old now?

 

When they first came out folk we bashing themselves silly over the 'Fez' heaters...

 

I have a T7 heater, seems nice - But as a third party product I will be interested to see how its lasted 5 years down the line..

you would need a huge amount of amps ( ~80A ) to generate a decent amount of heat 1Kw

That would be a pretty high electrical load, and much less efficient - the standard heater uses waste heat from the engine. The T7 heater is pretty good too (much better than the original) so it probably wouldn't make much sense.

 

The Fezzasus heater is also pretty good (much better than the original) but looks to be showing some reliability issues as time goes on. Still, wasn't bad for a £200 bespoke unit! Need to remember no one else was making anything comparable other than £50 for a bit of silicone hose and some clips...

I agree, at the time (2012) I was using the car a fair bit in winter and I needed the heater. Tom fitted it and then came to deal with a leak, so his design and commitment was very much appreciated. At this juncture 8 years on the heater is stuck on, and although it's fart hot, I have a coolant smell again so expect one of the hoses is leaking or there is a problem in the unit somewhere? Not significant enough to drop the level, but ideally I would like to sort it out.

I have the one and only Clifton 3000 heater installed in mine. It’s like a furnace and should last for ever. Sorry for gloating, but perhaps if enough people ask he could be persuaded to make a production run.

bump whilst this thread is being side tracked, but thanks for looking anyway.

 

Does anyone though have a Fezz heater that is sitting around and can get the Fan part product code.

Extrapilot, from what you say my guess is that the heater matrix is bust and both resistors as well if you only have heat from high setting,  fairly easy fix.
