I'm afraid I don't have enough knowledge of them to give any opinion that's worth anything.

My personal thought was that I didn't want to be first for any and to let the immediate problems come to light.  It looks like there haven't been any massively adverse events so I'm just waiting on my turn now.  Obviously long term effects aren't quantified because they can't be but generally problems are pretty quick to show with these things (large molecule therapies as opposed to drugs).

I signed up for one of the trials but never heard anything back as I was presumably too much of a risk. :D

I'm happy for them to jab me with anything short of the plague (so botox is out) and reckon there's only 21.5million people ahead of me in the queue now. More than happy for a 4am appointment too, if they ever do get 24/7 up and running (pretty sure they that'll only happen in London, if it happens at all) but given Bedfordshire had to wait for 4 weeks to get it's first doses delivered, I'm not expecting much of anything before June.

Arent the Modera and Biontech vaccines based on effectively 'untested' (in mass distribution) technology, where as the Oxford vaccine is based on more traditional development approach (hence the significant differences in storage and transportation requirements)? Could be wrong.

As an aside, counter to the narrative punted by the main stream news (LOCKDOWN NOW!!!):

The mrna and dna delivery methods are not new technology, yet not used on mass vaccination yet.
That gunnypig show is going on right now.

Curiosity as to what technology i will get injected got the better of me, so made this list:

Pfizer-BioNTech (mRNA - single-stranded)
Moderna (mRNA - single-stranded)
Sanofi (classic)
AstraZeneca (dna - double-stranded)
Curecav (mRNA - single-stranded)
Janssen (dna - double-stranded)
GSK (classic)
Novavax (US) (classic)

Struggling to understand why the vaccination numbers are actually decreasing, especially as 10 new vaccination hubs came online yesterday.

It's apparently a secret that the Government have decided we're not entitled to know.

Its a pretty simple one, the are running out of places where they can mass vaccinate elderly and moving onto places where people have to travel, ontop of crap weather means delays and no shows.

We are all in this together, unless you are a GP, they are being offered £30 a head for each old folks home vaccination if done last week, £20 a head this week and then onto the normal £10 a head from then.

The government wanted big numbers early and knew that nothing motivates a doctor more than money.

My neighbour is a nurse in the local hospital, she told me they are only doing the 1st dose for people and not doing the 2nd dose until all the 1st ones are done , this meant they had to throw away some units of the 2nd dose because they couldn't get the 1st ones done quickly enough and they may have to redo the 1st dose for some people again , she also saiid around a third of the staff are off self isolating because it's more important to vaccinate people who'll be lucky to still be alive due to old age by the time they get the 2nd dose , and by the time most of the population is vaccinated they'll be a new strain that's resistant and we'll be back to square one , I know everyone has a opinion about this which is tainted by there own personal position but I'm getting properly concerned about the road the goverment has taken us down . Let's not forget that income tax was a temporary measure brought in to pay for the war and 70 years later it's still here . If life is ever to get back to normal we are going to have put a acceptable level on death on covid rates just like we do with every virus but the goverment will not say what that is , if the answer is 0 then normal will never come . Anyway back to another day sat on the couch for 15 hours staring at the rain . Good times

Not down here. Only a third of the initial target groups have been done and the weather is decent enough to be a factor. East Anglia got properly stiffed in the first few weeks of vaccine distribution and super centres apparently due to "logistical difficulties". We're playing catch-up but seemingly with little sense of urgency.

For a country that claims to be at the forefront of "big data" and a major high tech hub, the lack of useful data is getting increasingly frustrating. Still feels like we're working from some fcuknuggets Excel spreadsheet. Nadim Zahawi doing his usual ignore the actual question asked and give an answer to something that wasn't asked is wearing thin too.

That was actually disclosed over here end last year.
The numbers were wrong quite a few times, and it was blamed on "computer mall functioning".
Then one article they accidentally mentioned it was a spreadsheet corruption.

They're confusing vaccine spreadsheets with the spreadsheets used for chipping us all.

It gets better than that over here Stefan. Our whole virus tracking reporting system was initially based on an Excel 2003 .xls spreadsheet. All well and good until they needed more than 65k lines in it and the importing system just started dumping everything that it couldn't fit in, without any kind of exception reporting (or anybody bothering to check for exceptions). Probably paid TCS or some similar IT consultancy £50m for setting that up.

I think Boris tried to recuperate some of that TCS money by selling it to the Netherlands, as that 65k lines thing rings a bell with me as the root cause for the reported spreadsheet corruption.

edit; can't find the article. Maybe i am mixing up UK and Dutch news on this one.

That's fine. I always get mixed up and think Mark Rutte looks like he should be a British Prime Minister.

That's a bit healthier:

2021-01-11 145,076 20,768 165,844

Looks like they just forget about things from Friday afternoon onwards and get their sh!t together again on Tuesday's.

For a change, it wasn't the Indians wot did it - it was Serco...  Via Dido Harding's useless mob, at Track and Trace, again....

The Register. looked at it in detail and as usual the Commentards knew a fair bit more between them :-)

My gran managed to get a second dose. I do wonder what the criteria is, just the individual doctor going against government advice?

Should all be kicked in now given she had the second one a few weeks ago.

Also given she lives with my parents, who me the mrs and 4 week old child are staying with (me depending how much work I have on at home). My parents both tested positive today, my mum phoned an ambulance yesterday and they just left her with an blood oxygen monitor, I had it a couple of week ago (I had to rest every 10 packs of tiles i was taking upstairs. 750kg of tiles feels like alot).

Definitely was worth destroying business for though.

Well the vaccination situation here in darkest East Suffolk was quite alarming on Monday. The local vaccination centre cancelled all of Mondays appointment because......................wait for it.................... the vaccine received only had a 3 day life and the regs say it must have a 3.5 day life for use.

Yes, I’m still trying to understand that one as well. This is how the local rag reported it but unfortunately that’s where the local rag’s intelligence ends. They only report what they are told, never question anything.

After loads of complaints about them not investigating the story properly they then issues an update which stated “none of the vaccines were wasted”.....................unbelievable! 😠

One big concern that i have is that there will be no system for capturing when people’s 2nd jabs are due. If they are given appointments for 10-12 weeks time then at least you’d think that they would be in some sort of system. I do fear that there is no system and that many will go beyond the revised maximum 12 week timescale.
Having had direct experience of ex NHS personnel 15 years ago, if the current senior NHS IT personnel are as incapable now as the ones that we employed and had to “release” after 18 months then god help us all.
