Wrote and produced the VXT launch film.

Posted 09 July 2020 - 06:26 PM

Casinos VXT went up in flames Norman Long Boat style. Nothing left but ashes.

From the time I smelt burning to the time it was fully ablaze must have been 3 minutes. Obviously I tried to put out the fire but the little water I was carrying and the awkward space behind the passenger front light didn’t help. Not sure an extinguisher would have helped either, I’ll never know.

Fire engine turned up in about 10 minutes but all they could do was douse the flames. Had about 3/4 tank petrol and that went up too. Folks that owned the garden the other side of the big hedge were very kind and helpful blocking the road and diverting traffic. Police were very helpful too with some kind words.

Wish I could say the same for Hastings Direct who have washed their hands of it saying they don’t pay out for spontaneous fires. Wish I knew that before handing over the £200.

Had a lot of fun in the car. 17 years is a lot of ownership. First seeing the prototype in Hethel then making the launch film and microsite. My involvement has been quite deep over the years. I’m proud to have been part of the team that got the VXturbo on the road. It’s been a great little car, although underpowered it showed spirit and always turned heads. Photos of the incident but I gave up ages ago trying to post images on .Org.

Bit to early to be thinking about a replacement, but for now I’ve got to come to terms with its loss day by day.

Pete

So sorry to hear this. Glad everyone us ok but really feel for you. Was it a light/hid issue? Good luck with the insurer sounds like they need referring to the ombudsman.

With Hastings it’s a case of reading your policy. Does it state they are not covered? Have you got third party cover only?

Sh!t Pete, I’m surprised you seem so calm about it & about the response from Hastings, I’d be bouncing off the walls with them.

I never cease to be amazed at how insurance companies compound the misery of a situation by trying to escape their responsibilities

This is awful. Sorry to hear it. I've just been reading around regarding insurance companies and car fires, and it looks pretty common that they weasel their out of it. The common argument is that it's a mechanical failure. I guess the same could be said for the cause of loads of different types of accident - tyre blowout, toe link failure... A convenient way for them to shirk their duties.

Gutted for you, I have 12 motorbikes and my VX in the shed, always assumed a fire in the shed would be covered, possibly not now I have to assume, time to check insurances.
