Discussion my wife and I just had, given the value I doubt it very much as they are not declared on the policy, unlike the tractorTechnically, if in your shed would they be covered by your household contents insurance?

There's no way I want to rub salt into the wound Pete but I've just called Classicline who insure our cars and they said any form of fire is covered. I expect they'd draw the line if i poured petrol on it and set light to it which I've been tempted to do on occasions but whether garaged, parked on the street or being driven it's cover. I cannot believe that Hastings would be any different.

Probably worth getting that in writing, I plan to email my insurersThere's no way I want to rub salt into the wound Pete but I've just called Classicline who insure our cars and they said any form of fire is covered. Thanks .Org.
Managed to get into my Hastings account which contradicts itself on fire.
Ive just completed a lengthy claims form. Most of which was nonsense...quote...has any metal on your car been pierced? After describing the fire and attaching pictures of ashes the very last section said ...Good news, looks as though your vehicle is repairable.
Hey ho I’m over brimming with joy at that. Will keep you all informed as I’m sure your itching to know how they do it.

Ah sh!t Pete, absolutely gutted for you but scary how these things burn, isn't it?
This insurance thing sounds farcical. A fire, unless it's arson, is by it's very nature spontaneous and I'd love to see them try to defend an unreasonable clause like that in front of a judge especially if it wasn't pointed out as a key term at the onset of the policy in plain English. Good luck and don't let them fob you off. Wnakers.

Several years ago people here used to use claim management companies. The main reason for this seemed to be so you got a fun courtesy car while the VX was repaired. Obviously this adds massively to premiums all round and seemed to fall into disfavour. (thankfully). Whilst I don't like these companies maybe they are able to help with a poor insurance company. Alternatively try ipostpoo.com

Really sorry to hear about the car but this business with Hastings Direct is appalling. We should all be posting on all the various forums we inhabit, the innocent question 'Anybody know anything about Hastings Insurance?' because I'm thinking of changing but a mate of mine etc etc. They know very well that it has only got to cost them 20 or 30 customers for the whole business to be a financial loss to say nothing of the reputational damage that will endure for several years at least. Pete, did you have fully comp or TPF&T?

Absolutely gutting.
I cannot believe the insurers can get away with washing their hands with this.
Did you have hid units? I had a very lucky escape from the clutches of fire thanks to some dodgy aftermarket HID fitment which would have been the insurers get out in my case had it escalated. But surely there is no get out if it is standard?

No special lighting, just regular bulbs last one changed in a November service.
Trudging through questions on top of questions. A kind lady called and was very understanding. But still many questions in paper form which are the same as the questions I was asked over the phone.
I feel sooo ordinary now. Driving around in Cath’s Suzuki Swift Which is anything but swift has been a huge demotion. No one looks, no fingers pointed, no Mercs wanting to be left behind in the mirrors.
Time to think about a replacement has been fun. Don’t think it will be another VX as I’ve owned two. May go over to the Lotus dark side but that voice in my head keeps saying Caterham, Atom 4 or even Ultima. Anyway, something with a similar DNA.
Thanks for all the support .Org. Will reopen the Den again soon.
Pete
