do times from PGR2 count ? If not I guess I have two options 1) get me a copy of GT4 2) start a rebel XBox league Anyway. I guess i'd better go practice in a VX. I've mostly driven the circuit in the porsche GT1 (2nd fastest car), tvr speed 12 (fastest car if you can keep it on the track ... into the low 6's now) or radical sr4 turbo (twitchiest car but corners like it's tied to the appex).

Right, I've never played racing games before and I've only been on the PS2 a few times since buying it for my daughter for chrsitmas, more of a PC wargaming man myself :D I can't seem to get below 9:30 in a standard vx. I've never managed a clean lap and invariably go grass tracking several times. I've even crashed at both places where I've crashed for real which was fun  I need some tips and tricks for driving with the joypad, can you vary the throttle input or is it just on/off, why does braking induce a weave? HELP ME PLEASE, it's really frustrating knowing the track so well and driving it like a numpty :P

The buttons are pressure sensitive, so don't jam the brakes on full at 120mph otherwise you'll end up in the hedges. You can also configure the the right hand stick to control the throttle/brake instead of the buttons which some people find easier to control the amount of throttle/brake, but I prefer the buttons. Also, if you are taking a a fast bend (say > 90mph) and want to bottle out of taking it flat, coming off the throttle completely will almost definitely lead to a big lift-off spin. Ease the throttle down to about 20% and the car will be much more stable. You should see two bars at the bottom of the screen which go up and down - the red one denotes how much brake you are applying and the blue is throttle. Glancing at these should help get a feel for how hard you are pressing (mashing!) the buttons. IMO GT4 is much more sensitive to part throttle/brake inputs than previous versions and it's a neccesity for decent lap times. On the 'ring, I find cruising at about 100 on the straights is good to start off with, rather than just flooring it to vmax where the car starts to get quite unstable. Another handy thing I've found is that if you've left your braking too late and it looks like you're going to miss the corner completely, easing off the brakes down to about 50% will usually give the fronts enough bite to get round the bend whilst still slowing you down, rather than ploughing straight on into the gravel with the brakes on max. That should keep you busy for a while - must do some real work now :beat:

That's like, an average speed of 150mph+ :o

Is this even possible in real life? I thought the lap record was 6 minutes something in a 956?

P!ssmittens! I've fallen outside the top 5 VXT times! :( At least I'm still holding my own in the seemingly unfashionable NA end of the pool! Interesting to see how many people have defected to the dark side though! :P I hope everyone is racing their cars in their own cars colour!!! :) Ben

Another thing that occurred to me last night - do you know about the brake indicator?

The red number that flashes above your gear is an indication of what gear you should be slowing down to for the next bend. When it's solid it's a warning, when it starts to flash that's a rough indication (take it with a pinch of salt) of when you should start braking. It can get a bit confused when you are approaching a complex of 4 S-bends though :P

First car I've bought is the VX in Silver...just like mine (even like the hard top I have on at the moment!) So, thats great for winning the first few races...now I have no money to buy another car and don't want to mod the VX! The times you are posting are fully standard including tyres or with non-power mods only?

Brad, they are on arcade mode, using std Speedster or Turbo with Sports Medium tyres, which are the default option No mods allowed!! (unless you are going for the modded time)
