Spacers up to 10mm are fine provided your not significantly changing the offset beyond the standard settings. VX is ET26 and Exige is ET31, so something in this range is ideal. The Speedline is ET36 and still fits, but that's about as big an offset you can fit without fouling on the inner arch/chassis. So something in the range ET26-36, with or without a small spacer. The width of the wheel/tyre is important too, but I've ignored this as it's too early in the morning to be doing mental arithmetic  PS If you fit a 10mm spacer, it would be best to fit one that extends the centre shaft of the hub, otherwise the wheel centre will not locate over the hub making it difficult to ensure the wheel is properly centred (Ricky has fitted this type). I have a 5mm spacer and just get away without one, but the wheel only just locates on the last few mm of the hub shaft. I've also used 30mm bolts rather than the 25mm standard, or 20mm supplied with the Speedlines... there's plenty of clearance behind the hub for longer bolts thumbsup

Applies to both. It is not critical, but makes life a lot easier when trying to mount the wheel on the hub before attaching the wheel bolts.

Ian I wasn't critisicing you at all, just giving my opinion on how I would do it. I appreciate the Oz wheels have been long time coming and I have all the details confirmed but I don't see any point in confirming those details until I have it in stone.

Hi,

Apology for being bit ignorant :P

I would like to clarify a few more details.

So adding a 5/10 mm spacer to the front will bring the offset to 31 or 36.

But how will this help to allow us to choose more variaty of wheel such as SSR (4x100) unless we change the wheel hub ?

Even if we have the correct offset, the PCD will be incorrect.

This will STILL not resolve the 5x110 issue, where many wheels do not have 5x110 spec. Is that correct?

So in the end, if I add a 5/10mm spacer to the front, it will be 5x110 et 31/36. which no wheel will fit.

Thanks!!

The wheels are made out of stone!!! I hardly think that's going to reduce the unsprung weight? :P

Ignoramus. We're talking about high tech composites here i.e. concrete.

Too many different issues being discussed on this thread I think, its all getting a little confusing. The discussion on wheel spacers is related to the wheel offset, and does not alter the hub PCD. In short; - you'll need Lotus hubs to convert to 4x100PCD, allowing the fitment of Speedline Turini (available in the shop), S2 Exige wheels or the Elise SSR wheels mentioned previously - there are a few options available for 16"/17" wheels on the standard 5x110PCD, VXR Speedlines (no real weight saving) or OZ SuperT (available through the shop, and with a similar weight saving to the above wheels) You don't need to change hubs or brake discs with these - the ideal offset (for wheel sizes up to 7J and tyres up to 205) is in the range ET26 to 36 - wheel spacers of 5 or 10mm can be used to modify the offset of a particular wheel, they will not alter the PCD or no of bolts!! A 10mm spacer will modify a wheel with offset ET36 to ET26 (my wheels are 7Jx16" ET36, which with a 5mm spacer reduces the offset to ET31) With higher offset, the inside wheel rim is closer to the inner arch/chassis.

could you ßplease give me the Part Number of the hubs?  :)

Thorney can supply the lightweight Lotus hubs. Failing that, the standard Astra 4 bolt hub (PCD 4x100) is a direct replacement for the 5 bolt VX unit (PCD 5x110) thumbsup

Are the lotus hubs lighter than the Astra hubs?

Yes, when you look at them side by side you can't believe the difference. The Vauxhall hubs have a 1 inch thick metal endge and the Lotus ones only 10mm. Seeing as they're designed to have a 1400kg car on the Vauxhall hubs are a little over built. :P I've had Lotus hubs on my car for the last 14k miles - no issues whatsoever. I even have a set in stock :P

I have had a reply from Dymag (carbon/magnesium wheel). They don't have the sizes to suit us now but they do plan to do wheels which will in the next 12 months. They have full safety certification for road use and quote chapter and verse on compliances.

I have asked them some subsidiary questions e.g will they do Elise hubs only and can they give us a weight estimate for the 7J*16 and 8J*17. Here, to wet the appetite, is a picture of one of their wheels:

I wonder how the magnesium part is connected to the CF part.
