I've just asked if I could get an RAC inspector to check it over before I bid. Looks well dodgy VX_Beastie. I'd stay well clear IIWY!

The seller has done nothing wrong. It's the buyers responsibility to ask questions - caveat emptor, buyer beware. Sounds harsh but you should have done the checks before bidding or asked a lot more questions where you get written answers. From his light description of the vehicle that would put alarm bells in many peoples heads (i'd have been too chicken to have bought that). You entered into a contract on a whim - I'm sure you wouldn't walk into an auction house and do the same and then try to ask questions later (it'd be too late anyway, why should it be different on ebay). You need to take responsibility for your actions. You can always walk away if you are not happy and risk him sueing you but I doubt he'd go to those lengths he'll more likely be mighty pissed off (and rightly so). If it has a bent chassis then that would be fair grounds to walk away - do you know anyone who you can bring along who can at least check that out for you. I hope the car is a goodun and it works out for you.

Are those turbo lights all round? If so why, if damage was only cosmetic?

He has probably filed an unpaid item against you - eventhough he has just relisted it.

You need to file a case against him through ebay to be in the clear. ;)

PS... Loads of questions from us asking about HPI check will be good thumbsup

hpi check came back as advertised.... minus £40 for me though :(

would i not be better off waiting until somebody else has completed and won a bid in 4 days incase ebay cancel the auction and try to revert to the original one?

yeah saw that 11k one... with hard top too B)

unfortunately i'll have to wait til June as i only have about 7k at the mo and was going to borrow the other 2k to get it quick quick. Am getting quite a lot of dough in June so will just pay the extra and be safe.. one thing i've learnt is that i'd def want to buy from a member... so much i didn't even think about at first that i now know will come as standard when buying from a member.... like an honest owner that loves the car.

happy to see that ppl in general think i've got off lightly... that's how i feel. cheers for input all ;)

fair comments buddy...

we're a bit passed all that... dunky was going to come along with me... i was never pulling out of the deal.. even now i'm still interested (for some reason) but we set an exchange date... i.e. wednesday and he's refusing to let me get an RAC check prior to that exchange date... if i'm legally bound then it'll make no difference whether the car is checked or not..... unlesss..... unless it IS fcuked and he's mis-sold it. Hence my point, if i got the check and pulled out because of something like a loose seat fitting, THEN i'd be in the wrong... but i can only pull out if he hasn't told the truth, so why not let me get it checked if he HAS told the truth ya know?

And yes... new wheels, lights, bits and bobs, MOT done in the garage next door, he's owned it for 6 months.... there's a lot there that doesn't add up... that's fair enough i still bid on it.... but when there's ALL that dodginess AND he refuses to let me get it checked prior to agreed date (hence not delaying anything)... then he's in the wrong... oh... that and he hung up on me before putting back on ebay. poof :9mm:

Just sent him a few questions: What was the damage... I'm guessing front and rear Clam as you have turbo lights front and rear.. Was there any chasis dammage? have you got any photo's of the dammage and repair? When is a good time to have the AA do the once over?

Was the sale advertised on ebay "subject to satisfactory RAC inspection" or similar?

If you're thinking of bidding on a car on ebay, you should look at it, test drive, kick tyres, arrange RAC inspection, etc before placing a bid.

If you've won the bidding, you've entered into a contract to buy the car. Not to possibly, perhaps, maybe discuss buying it.

Ding Ding Ding

Na thats crap!, if the car is dodgy walk away!!

On Ebay if you are the winner then thats it you have entered into a contract.

If you did it to me I would sue you..simple as that and I would win

Over an eBay bid???! I think you need to get a grip!!

He/previous owners might have wanted the turbo lights - as some people regard them to look better than the NA ones.

Sounds like your better off out of it and it is a godsend he relisted taking the pressure off you to complete the deal. Ebay is always tempting, imagine, some people buy houses for hundreds of thousands, stick to buying DVDs and games :)

I would contact eBay straight away and explain what has happened. I can hardly see them making you buy it now. It may just stop him selling it on to someone else in a dangerous condition.

I'd posted without reading some of the threads that had popped up before my post and reading further the bloke does sound well dodgy. I think you are in the clear as he has readvertised it. VX_Beastie you sound like a top bloke thumbsup and your points are well justified. I reckon you should steer clear of this car, save your pennies and buy in the summer because you deserve better than that. There's normally a reason for an absolute bargain. I hope you end up with an absolute beaut.

FWIW, im guessing the seller just thought:- 'Here we go again, another anonymous e-bay buyer attempting the RAC check to get the price lowered' and re-listed it, cos im pretty sure another auction would be less hassle than the RAC nit picking  He does say in his latest auction 'please please view the car before bidding' seems to me a lesson learned on both parts...if you want the car RAC checked, get the check done before bidding. As said before 'buyer beware' thumbsup
