Right, time for me to jump off the fence and into the flames :D :flame: The Tubby is quicker on paper. Period. And in most cases it will be quicker on the road and track. The VX and VXT are still very similar cars just the VXT kicks out a lot more power. Why would Vauxhall have bothered spending extra money and bringing out a tubby if it wasn't quicker than it's previous model? It seems that most Tubby owners don't give a stuff and most NA owners spend their time trying to justify why they bought an NA and not a turbo. There will no doubt be exceptions but £ would have been a factor. If they'd had the cash they would have bought a turbo ;) :flame: :saw: :poke:

I had 2 NAs before my VXR and loved them both but they didn't seem that fast.

The VXR is a lot faster anywhere as far as I can tell. 0 - 60 in 4.2 is pretty damned quick

Possibly a well sorted NA will beat a turbo on the limit but I try not to drive that close to the limit on the road as I enjoy seeing my kids growing up.

I'm sure a well modded NA will be a bit quicker than a VXT in some situations but thats not a standard car. You would then need to compare it to a modded VXT.

Anyway it seems a pretty pointless debate as to which is better. They are different cars and you should just get the one you like best. If you've got an NA and love it, great. If you wouldn't swap your VXT for anything else, great. I think my VXR is wonderful but I am sure there are lots who wouldn't touch one with a barge pole. To be honest I don't care 'cause I bought it for me not to impress anyone else.

Still think you're making quite an assumption there. ;)
Try telling that to Tony_M, who bought an NA, then proceeded to spend on mods alone what could have bought him a VXT as well as his NA :o

Not quite but almost...

I had three turbo blow on my 200sx, so I'm not a big fan of forced induction.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the VXT, but for me it's a simle case of preferring the NA

What did you do to it?!!!!! I got 100K out of my SX and no engine work whatsoever.

Was it the 1.8?(mine was the 20.)

anyway....not wanting to get involved in this pathetic VA vs T debate but just to say...

I could drive my N/A pretty flat out anywhere (except down a wet french motorway!)
whereas i cant drive the T flat generally except on a track...and thats with grippier tyres. :D

edit: whoops! I just realised that could indicate a downside to the T's handling

Although there's '000s of posts on this, not owning one the topic of Turbo versus N/A is always interesting to me :P I can get both points of view, although the "in the real world there's no real difference between the two" argument seems a bit strange. After all, the Turbo as more power/torque, is slightly more confortable, so "in the real" world it should be the better choice(?) Plenty of excellent dynamics plus the ability to quickly overtake which I think is as real world useful as I can think of. I'm not talking about road racing but inevitably you're going to come across some oil burner on a mission, I guess an N/A could get stuck in the middle of the manouver should some a#$$le decide you have no right to overtake him. Also often commented, to what extent is the Turbo softer than the N/A? I guess it doesn't feel like a wobbly thing in comparison, we're talking minute stuff here I guess) Finally I keep reading all the time about "how the car will handle on UK roads" on mags etc. Are the roads there really so crap? :P I mean, lots of cars get pummelled on the press cause they don't float over all the bumps, pots and camber changes? What's giving? Over here the roads are generally good, and what's the pleasure anyway of driving a sports car on crap, pothole ridden roads no matter how twisty? When I'm in the position to buy one it's going to be difficult to test drive both cars (probabily going to import) in any meaningful way so these comments are always useful...

Has TT bought a TreVoR?

Edit: I used to find the NA v T debate quite funny and would regularly join in, but it's gotten a bit old now hasn't it?

BTW I didn't even consider a T when I bought mine, mainly due to the fact it wasn't even near production. :)

I am probably going to get :9mm: here by my own "team" But I get the impression many N/A owners crave more power so they can pull away from pretty normal cars on pretty normal roads. And VXT owners are chuffed to bits how third gear blows most cars away. I obviously still think the car is great, like people said there is more to it than just acceleration but it all adds to the experience.

In my opinion both NA and VXT are more oriented towards a track than to greasy acne-cratered back roads. Or at the very least smooth twisty dry and hardly frequented public roads. :P That said, the VXT driven by pro testers on short twisty tracks such as "5th gear" compared to the Exige 111R was only hundredths of a second slower which goes to say a lot about its handling, fat arse or not the stop clock doesnt give a fcuk about that. Similarly on the german car show, AUTO MOTOR & SPORT, the VXT was much quicker around their go-kart track than the NA, again driven by the same tester who knows the track inside out. So to each to draw their own conclusions... In MHO the VXT is a much better performance platform if one wants a fiercely fast track tool, as the the chassis set-up and engine have a huge headroom for improvement over the NA. As far as the on the road feel it's a very subjective argument so no point debating to eternity... NA and VXT are pretty much equivalent save your straight line grunt on the VXT as you surf its torque wave thumbsup We're all sharing the same DNA to each his own clone B)
