Hey I thought I've never been in one of these debates so I should give my own opinion. thumbsup Never been in a tubby so can't comment on its enhanced performance. :o A different reason why people might buy NA's. :flame: I chose NA as a driving tool in which to master track work etc, with the view to maybe going for a tubby later. poof I expect it to take me a couple of years to do this in which time an 05 or 06 tubby's should still be available for sale. I must say though after 6 months ownership i'm thinking of keeping the NA for a long time maybe its future use will be weekend toy/track car? I may still go for a tubby in the future. All i know is its a great car to drive/use on track and thats why I bought it! :P Andy chinky chinky

NA wheels look good and are easier to clean. Split spokes are a pain in the arse to clean but do look nice poof As an aside I think it is healthy and fun to have this discussion. Whilst it may be old news for some there are a lot of new members to this site and new owners, like myself. So it is something that is fresh in our minds as it's a very important decision we had/have to make; do I buy a tubby or an NA.

I had three turbo blow on my 200sx, so I'm not a big fan of forced induction.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the VXT, but for me it's a simle case of preferring the NA

What did you do to it?!!!!! I got 100K out of my SX and no engine work whatsoever.

Was it the 1.8?(mine was the 20.)

It was an early 1.8.

1st Turbo blew because of a design fault with the oil feeder pipe which went straight across the top of the exhaust manifold and cooked it. The pipe quickly choked up resulting in no oil in the turbo and a lot of melted stuff.

2nd Turbo blew because it was a faulty unit and only lasted 500 miles

3rd Turbo blew becuase it was made in China :o OK it failed becuase I'd had enough by then and ragged the car to peices...

DW1 - It is a decision that you have to make. Drive them both. Buy the one you like best.

Already did. And decided on a tubby

That derivative suited what I personally wanted from the VX.

I'm sorry, but how can a car with 165bhp (stage 2 N/A) be as quick as a car with 250 bhp / 250 lbs/ft of torque (stage 2 VXT)? Not in a million years would an N/A be as quick as a VXT, neither round a track, down the 1/4 mile at Santa pod, nor racing down dual carriageways.

I still don't get why so many people think the VXT feels so much faster than the NA, when I felt there was relatively little in it from a sensory point of view. When I drove them back to back the VXT felt a bit torquier but not massively so. When I passengered in a standard VXT on track it didn't really feel noticeabley quicker than my stage 2 NA, and I wouldn't say my stage 2 feels massively quicker than a standard car. IMO there's far more to how fast a car feels than purely its level of acceleration. Noise is quite a big factor, as is the nature of the engine. My stage 2 seems quicker because it revs more freely at the top end, and responds more positively at the bottom end. Put it side to side with a standard NA in a drag race and there probably wouldn't be much in it up to about 70mph, but drive them both and you'd probably find mine feels quite a bit quicker.

I think it is all about road conditions. I have a VXT stage 3 and can blow away most things in a straight line of smooth dry road. Surprised a new RS4 yesterday. But anyway... Put the car on damp/wet back roads and it is a different story. I have had the car for 6 months now and I am surprised how little I am able to use full throttle in most conditions. Bottom line is. There is a certain level of speed that we are all comfortable with using on public roads. And that is the limiting factor. We can all get to these speeds pretty quickly, and once there it is all about maintaining and moderating that speed for corners and hazards. It doesn't matter whether you are in a VXT, a N/A or a Clio sport for that matter. I am sure that giving a complete disregard to other road users I could easily pull away from a N/A but that is not what it is all about. I don't have any kids but I sure as hell don't want to deprive anyone else of watching their own grow up. The frustrating thing about the VXT is that you are driving it at 5/10ths of its performance on public road whereas with the N/A it is probably nearer 8/10ths. That for me makes the N/A a better driving experience. Although, I love the VXT for the odd occasion when you can embarrass expensive exotica. Plus I like being able to say I own one, however shallow that makes me. I had great fun chasing rep mobiles in the 1.1 Corsa I had the other day as a courtesy car. Mainly because at normal road speeds you are at 10/10ths all the time. Although I am sure the novalty would soon wear off. Anyway, I hope you all enjoy you choices and those that ask for opinions should be aware that it is only natural that individuals will have some self-serving bias towards their own choice. It is the main way that we pat ourselves on the back that we made a good decision and thus the reason these type of threads are so popular and emotive, however unfounded our arguments may be sometimes. :P Nat
