I've just popped down to MIJ PERFORMANCE [ www.mijperformance.com ] in Walsall to enquire about getting them to design and fit a custom SS exhaust for the VX.

I was very impressed with the setup - looks very new [almost like a VW/Audi garage]. Nice plasma screens, and bucket seat seating area's. The garage was full of EVO, Scoobs, Skylines, Porsches and other hot hatches.

I asked for someone to talk to me about the exhausts. Out came Jay who was the resident expert. We had a chat and he thought he had done a VX about 18 months back, but he had done loads of Elises.

We chatted about the design - which took us to this forum, where I showed him all the different exhaust designs [on the Exhaust thread] mainly the Piper.

He could also tailor the bore size either for torque or BHP [I went with torque so will enlarge the bore slightly but not to the full 2 1/2 inches]

Also the Exhaust note - I went for high pitched like my CTR.

The loudness - I think you can guess that one! :P

And tailpipe design - I am going to stay with the 2 x tailpipes but slightly bigger and rolled.

Normally he says it takes a couple of hours to do - but after seeing my black beastie [on this website] he said he wants to take all day starting from 8am so that he can get everything stunning and so that he can take some pics and clips etc of what he had done.

Its all being done on Wednesday.

Its costing me £350 inc fitting - I know this is dearer than some, but when he showed me his work I realised its worth every penny!

rallly

Yes he would do a tubby - but he said they were too heavy for the ramps! Yep he will do a tubby. The first pic he showed me was of a tubby exhaust. They do manifolds, downpipes, 100/200 cell cats, and obviously cat back systems [what im having]. EDIT - all above custom, so you will have to speak to them about it.

Ooooh I'd be very interested in this - £150 less than a Piper box including fitting, and tailored to your own tastes - sounds like a bloody good deal to me. :) Look forward to a writeup. Tell me if it pops & bangs like a Piper. thumbsup

Ive gone for twin round - slightly larger than std, rolled out. I was going to go for the letterbox style but I thought that the round pipes compliment the angular back end.

I'm having chrome - nice contrast to that big black ass!

Will do. Ive asked for ti to be loud - but not stupidly loud!

I used to have an Elise with no cats and a Stage 2 Janspeed SS exhaust - now that was loud!!!!! It banged so loud on a cold engine in overun that people used to jump walking on the pavement whilst I was driving past!

Hmmm... very tempting, and only 15 mins down the road! Just got to wait for my insurance renewal to come round so I can get a mod friendly (or just tolerable) policy

For an NA??? if so then of course! [I'll be going down that route soon - but have just renewed my insurance, paid to tax it, and MOT it, plus have been on hols - so a bit skint!]

You need to decat your beastie then!

Nice one Chris, I used to have Civic VTi and got a full custom stainless exhaust made for it. The best 400 quid I spent on the car in my opinion - and I had a folder of receipts for it. The guys I got to do mine were always very helpful and insisted that if I ever felt anything was wrong with it just to bring it straight back. Like you my spec was as much torque as possible. It was so loud on the motorway that it used to give me a sore head after 30mins. :D Fantastic sound all through the rev band and then when it went into the VTEC all hell would break loose. I might yet take the vx to them. I hope you are as happy with your custom system as I was. :groupjump:

chris just watch they are not riding round in your car when the have it .i went there and he wanted me to leave it with them for two to three days. it just felt as if they were going to do it and ride around for the rest of the time ,thats why i ended up at stafford unique exhaust and he did the same exhuast plus fitted my cat for £320

Good advice mate - I'll write down the mileage and show it to them.

They seem OK though.

I had a custom stainless exhaust made for a turbo Honda CRX I built about 4 years ago, quality was awful so good luck ! All the pipework was indeed stainless but the fittings and welds weren't and it rusted out in no time. Lifetime warranty is great if you live next door to the installers and can keep taking your car back for them to spend another day on it but for most people it's just not viable. All the bends were crush bent and although I could choose the bore it's not something you can guess at, bigger is not necessarily better in this case Hopefully these places have come a long way now and things are better though thumbsup
