Do you like your clutch and transmission? 1/4 mile really isn't what the VX is about.

yes i know. why do people always asume that new members are idiots? thumbsdown i bet that over 80% of cars taken on a drag strip are not designed for it. however it is fun and much safer than racing your friend from the lights in your local neighbourhood :( . Also you find alot of cars on trackdays that are not meant for them. dam ive even passed a mondeo estate with slicks on  !! now thats out of the ordinary but the vxt standard can do 0-60 in a respectfull time and dose have torque to zip it up to 120 mph without trouble...so whats the prob with having ago :) im curious to see what sort of times they run with what mods. i might take mine down to pod later this year. any times welcome regards andy. :D

1/4 mile really isn't what the VX is about.

before i opened up the threads i knew thats what would be in here..

ive seen cars like TVR's, porsches and ferarris at drag strips, theyre for any car.

i can see the point about an NA as you will get beat by civic type r's, clio williams etc up the strip, but the turbos do have the pace to give some big power cars a run for their money.

killed the clutch on the 1st run though. :beat: it was already on its way out.
let the car cool down and later on had another couple of runs, had to do a granny launch, get rolling and then boot it. clutch was still slipping

did 12.9sec 1/4 (beating a stripped out 350bhp ibiza cupra on r888s  )

mods: milltek, VXR turbo, VXR injectors, Courtenay map, standard wheels and tyres, 260bhp 270lbft

am gonna take it up the strip at that performance vauxhall show too.. see how it goes. times and terminal speeds do give a good indication of the cars performance.

''Lap times might be relevant for the Vx, any old c*nt can go in a straight line''

and thats why the time/speed is a good indication of the cars performance, not driver ability.

You know Mr. Redhairsucks has a small and valid point here. Granted this time he has asked a bit of a daft question but alot of other new members dont, yet some of us on here have this 'lets answer sarcastically' attitude on this forum that we have to press upon there questions.
I honestly think that after a few months of ownership the new lads get more into the ethos of the car like us older experienced members but until then do we really need to take the p*ss?

Anyway, standard car figures........
Vauxhall VX220 Turbo (2003) 202BHP 13.5s
Vauxhall VX220 (2000) 145BHP 14.8s
Lotus Elise (1996) 118BHP 14.4s

thanks guy. its shocking how much has to be done to various sports cars to out run a vxt never mind out corner it. the lads whom are takin the p*ss should have a go. its quite funny to watch. ive done it in different cars before. my best mate had a mini with a r1 engine conversion. it litterally beat everything on the day. cant recall what time but it was low 11s. ive even seen a lambo murcelago go down. he drove like a girl but still did low 12s i think. its also suprising how much effort has to be put in just to loose 1/2 a second. thats both car and driver. its no where near as technical as a track but still requires a sufficiant slip of the clutch and the balls to do full throttle gear change .

I did a 1/4 mile in my old MR2, Mk2 T-Bar. She was completely standard and at the time had a full boot of weekend kit for me and the wife and still did a 16.9, terminal speed was 93. I even beat a bloke in a Turbo'd Civic. I know it's nowhere near the times that tuned and experienced guys do, but I was well chuffed. In the VX though, I just wanna track it to be honest, hopefully sometime this year I'll get to Plans for some driver training. Ignore the Sarky comments, they crop up now and again, but very rarely really.

1/4 miling is actually a fairly "tricky" thing to do CORRECTLY getting the sweet launch to not light up the wheels, and to not bog down is hard etc. but i guess the sarcastic ones can do a perfect 1.5 sec 60foot time cant they lmao Ive seen a few VX's do 1/4's and to be fair the times werent that impressive.... i guess they were N/A's running. Ive been toying with the Idea of the laughing gas, but wouldnt post on here about that as im sure the sarcasm would destroy the monitor :beat:
