ATT MODS Would it be a good idea to block guest viewing and new registrations to the forum for the moment? The current attention could have a very negative effect

Blocking it would only make it worse, it would look like we had something to hide. This is an open forum and people who come on to it would see that the vast majority of the community are sensible people, with a sense of humour as well. Who knows it may even attract new owners. :)

Wouldn't it be easier and less 'controversial' to just stop posting on it and let it fall off the front page. Ooops. Okay. From ...... ...... NOW!

he wont have been arrested for the matter as the arrest would have not been necessary in the general arrest conditions. i reckon a visit from the police and the request for a voluntary interview, I mean thepolice have to be seen to do something as its in the public spotlight. Evidence wise it hasnt come from the radar of a police vehicle, a speed camera or anything other speed capturing device, digital stills cann be used in evidence, but i wouldnt imagine the police/ CPS would even entertain at trying to bring the lad to court....the pic indeed could have been adjusted, the speedo could have been faulty, its more than lightly a bravado post to say the least.i mean an electrical faul can quite easily cause speedo flicker..unless of course on the vxr are Mech drive. It wont go beyond words of advice...after all how can one perceive speed from a picture.......next week it will be yesterdays news dont worry about it.. just dont do silly speeds on UK roads, too much to loose......save the antics for the track or the auto bahn. He he i only signed up to get some buying tips :-)

And there was me ignoring the opportunity to mention that such absurd speeds could be achieved from a £14k car with a few TMS enhancing mods to it :)

On a serious post, I've been contacted by a variety of press and media over this as well as the poster himself and needless to say he would ratehr the whole thing was just forgotton. My own personal view (the 'site' as such doesn't have an official view as it is simply a collection of owners opinions) is that speed in itself is not a bad thing, innapropriate speed is. It's clearly stupid to drive at 3 figure speeds on UK roads, but we are all guilty of doing stupid things so I'm not about to personally lambast someone for that, so much depends on quantum, road conditions, traffic level, weather, time of day thats its impossible to make any reasonable informed comment. I live near Silverstone, the road from my house is designated 60mph with two sections of 40mph in. On the 60mph areas I consider it 'safe' at certain times to drive in excess of 60mph but on both the 40mph sections they pass schools and houses with doorways that open directly onto the road so I consider 40mph to be too high and usually pass at 30mph. The point is that the application of speed should be based on the conditions it is exercised. Regardless of details its clearly mind numbingly stupid to boast of such actions in such an open environment and regardless of any potential action the police may have genuinely believe that the poster in question is unlikely to be doing that again! We've been asked to close or delete this thread and we are unable and unwilling to do so. We are unable as the police have been involved and for us to deliberately destroy information would be in affect attempting to pervert the course of justice or at least interfering with a police investigation (should there be one). My personal view is that we have no information that indicates any crime has been committed, all we have is the comments from someone claiming to have done something, thats not proof of anything and should be considered anything but that - claims. We are unwilling to delete the thread as we (the whole mod team) believe that censureship in such matters is counter productive to the forum and by closing an avenue of comment all we'll do is create bad feeling for those who still wish to comment, better to just let the story die as they all do. This particular thread comes in a reasonably short time frame after we had two members killed in an accident where the response from members here was an overwhelming reaction of sympathy and to help raise a significant amount of money for charity. I would hope that all here (members and casual readers alike) will recognise that we here are not all speed junkies out to cause mayhem but are a group a people with an affection for a car that whilst able to achieve supercar levels of speed and performance is treated with respect that driving on the roads in any car deserves.

Is it not innocent unless proven otherwise anymore? What was originally a good thread that a lot of us had enjoyed a lot of banter and discussion on with the whole speed debate had gone a bit far and I did ask for it to be removed. When Gareth started to get mentioned in it I just thought it was unfair and I asked Nick H and Turbo Tomato to delete it. At this point the images had been long removed. I don't think it was an unreasonable ask? Didn't even get a reply. Then a few days later the Sun is all over it with their usual disregard for people and facts. Was the image tampered with, was the speedo reading the correct speed, who was driving, who's car was in the image, was the time on the camera set to the correct time, did the images belong to whoever posted them, who had access to the username? I guess there are many, many more questions but all they are interested in is making something into a story – literally. I guess we'll never know who thought it would be a nice idea to completely fcuk someone else over and forward stuff that wasn't even still on here. Interesting too how someone else seems to have been 'contacted' by so much of the media when I haven't. I did ask Thorney to remove the original thread after everyone had had a chance to read and comment (which I think they now have). It doesn't serve any real benefit to anyone other than generating increased traffic to the site.

Ant as I replied before and as I explain above, as far as the site is concerned you've done nothing wrong, whether you've claimed to do x speed in y location are simply claims and have no legal affect whatsoever. However for us to deliberately delete information which may become subject of any investigation would be breaking the law, I'm sure you're not asking us to do that?
