I just had to try a 2.4 inlet manifold after reading about them on the usa sites, so I imported one :P It looks impressive, quite like the venom alloy inlet but only $150 instead of $1000 :D Also got some 2.0 sc injectors coming over from the states, so should be interesting when all fitted

yeah read about them on the 22se site... looks a good budget mod :0 where did you get it from and were they nice enough to list them as "warranty return parts" on the customs form to erm get them through ok?

bought it from these guys which was the same company that supplied my 2.0sc 68mm tb :)

manifold cost £75 :D

shipping £75 :(

customs £35 :borg:

the standard 58mm tb bolts straight on, my 2.0sc 68mm tb needs a spacer to allow the plug to clear the inlet, the 2.4 68mm tb would have been better

Looks nice - is it metal or plastic? Looking forward to seeing what you think of it. To clarify, this can be fitted to a stock 2.2 engine?

the 2.4 vvt inlet manifold part number 12587878 will bolt straight on a z22se engine :D you can just replace the inlet maniolfd and use all your other parts :) the usa guys report a good increase in performance, you can see why in the pics :D made from the same material as the standard inlet manifold.

Cool! Looks the biz vocky thumbsup

A thought to ponder - With the 2.2L having so much low end torque by default do you not think the mid-high end RPM should be the target for improvement? I'm using short runners but am still getting great low end torque CLICKY

this is what markv posted on the z22se site :)

Max power on the 2.4 seems to be 177hp at 6600rpm and max torque is 225Nm at 4800rpm. So that is at significantly higher RPM then the 2.2. That would mean that the manifold will flow enough for a 2.4 engine to run max power at 6600rpm.

Vocky just read the thread over at z22se, the 2.4 inlet looks like a great idea Imnotworthy Now before i go rushing off to order the inlet are you sure it will bolt straight on and that i can use all the std bits? I wont be fitting it myself so is there anything important I should mention to the mechanic before fitting? Is it a clam off job? Will i need to blank the EGR valve? Refitting the ECU? Anything else intresting I could order at the same time to save on shipping costs? :D

Correct Part?

Mechanical Catalog - 2006 - Saturn - Ion
Fuel system, Fuel induction, Intake, Intake manifold, Intake manifold, ion, 2.4l

(sorry about all the stupid questions)

can you make those people mark the parcel up as warranty returns though..... if so that saves a customs issue.

yes, I've replied via z22se :)

I will post a step by step of my install, you will need to blank the egr, standard stuff does fit (I bolted the 58mm tb on and it's a perfect seal) clam stays on, ecu will require a couple of brackets, not sure on other stuff to order depends on your engine spec.

that is the correct part :)

I'm just trying the inlet system out before I fit throttle bodies, crazy I know but I just want to see what it will do :tt:

Sounds good. Been interesting to see the effect it has on mid and top end  Do you know the profile of the cams in the 2.4? Also, wonder if there's any difference in piston design....

yes, the gasket set :beat:

the 2.2 gaskets can be used, but the oil vent gasket is different and I've had to modify it to fit

hopefully it will flow better than the standard inlet :) UPDATE: problem: the usa cars have a different alternator to the european cars and the result is our alternator is in the way by about 10mm :beat: answer: modify the alternator by removing the plastic end cap, then bolting the +12v cable directly to the alternator and fitting a seperate suppressor/capacitor. [the plastic end cap houses an inbuilt suppressor/capacitor and a spacer for the +12v cable] so after five long hours the 2.4 inlet manifold is now finally bolted on my vx220 :tumble: four hours of that was spent working out how to get it to fit, so at least you guys won't have that problem if you ever decide to fit one :beat: So the list of things that need modifying gets longer  1, alternator - remove end cap and fit a suppressor/capacitor [done] 2, replace servo vacuum hose - longer/ larger diameter piece required [done] 3, replace servo vacuum hose one way valve - to match new hose 4, ecu mounting - make a couple of brackets 5, dip stick tube - make a bracket 6, egr - remove pipe and fit a blanking plate to head [done]

If you look at the pics on z22se it sound alot more difficult than it looks, vocky's done all the hard work figuring out how to do it.
