Berners are historically outdoor dogs but are just as at home indoors. They don't particularly like being left for a long time on their own which can be a problem.

I hope you are able to sort out your work pattern and get one because they are fantastic dogs. I am heading to Germany in March to see the missus' family so get to spend a week with 4 of them :D/>

Exactly... hence the failure to do.

I had been told no to a German Shepherd, we had agreed a Border Collie, when the time comes.

Ever thought of a Golden Retriever , My mate has just got one and its a great dog.I also know another guy who has two. I personally love the GS they always seem to have that look of superiority about them very clever and alert all the time. I loved mine and would have trusted it with my kids all day long
Once watched the baby crawl over to him and bite his ear he just yelped then went to lick him.His problem was he was way way to protective of his family and was a danger to strangers.

Now the kids have gone I would go for an German Shepherd again, but its more of a risk than a Lab or Retriever

Just put in a normal filament bulb, he will not be bothered its light at night time, 40 or 60 watt

he will be fine with that,

Do you not have a heat pad in the tank ?

I've been round and checked my bulbs and they are all bayonet and I need a screw in one. Its holding at about 20-22 degrees at the min and am leaving the heating on tonight. No he's just heated from the bulb

Dont worry he will be absolutely fine.

They can easily cope with low temps for a short time , they just slow down.

I have bayonet to screw adapter so can use any.

Mine escaped into the roof space with no heating for a few week and was ok

Had a bad evening with him. Just looking like he's getting ready to shed again but I'd already defrosted a rat. Tried him with it anyway and he ignored it. First time since I first got him. Then misted the tank and the bulb didn't like that at all! I'd changed to a smaller bulb and I don't think it likes running hotter for longer as it was a 75w one. Going back to a 150 as its not on as frequently as its up to temp faster. I'm sure he'll be fine I just want him to shed properly this time!

Its handy to have a heat pad/sheet as background heat as the lamps are not as critical then.

They never eat before shedding days before the eyes glaze over .

I would prefer the smaller lamp that it on most of the time at one end of the tank so they can bask under it or move to the other end which is cooler as they choose , a temperature gradient in the tank is good
