My little buddy Indy has not been too well today, not sure if it's a combination of the heat and thunder today, but he hasn't eaten much at all since breakfast. He isn't himself at all and it got so bad that he went to the vets at 8:30 tonight. All seems well from the emergency vet's point of view, so he was given a little injection to help with his tummy and he'll be going to out Vet ASAP tomorrow. I've never seen him like this before.

He is only 1 and a bit.

Sorry for going on a bit but I'd like it if you could think of Indy if you're up and about, he's my wee buddy

They will probably give you the critical care food to give to him. Try giving parsley. No matter how Ill mine are they always eat parsley. (",)

Hope he perks up soon, is he drinking that's the main thing. No food for a few days is nothing as long as he drinks.

Thanks guys thumbsup The only thing I could get him to eat yesterday was a single basil leaf, that's his favourite. He may have eaten some pellets too, but nowhere near his usual. Is the critical care food like a paste you can feed him via syringe? Yeah Gordon, he is still drinking, I'm happy enough that he is still drinking an not giving up entirely :) Hopefully it's just something daft that is causing him a little pain or discomfort, like one of his nails or something. He is only young and usually full of beans, he has the fight in him!

That's good if he is drinking, keep giving him plenty, don't worry about the food they can go a long time without and hopefully he will pick up soon. Fingers crossed. Has he got too hot in this sun? That could have upset his system for a while.in the wild they go deep under ground to escape the high temps. .

He had been fine up until yesterday, he was fine in the morning when I fed him and he ate breakfast. He did seem almost normal in the vets after a 30min drive with the AC on, but the house isn't notably warm today and his cage is inside and out of sunlight yet he his still just lying about like a burst couch. I'm not sure if he has been really spooked by the thunder yesterday, that's the only outside factor I can think of. Not sure if he would have been bitten by a spider or eaten one or if that would even bother him, he is a rabbit after all, off of outside

Cheers Goose :) Not good news at all from the vet, they have kept him in to treat him. It's a bunch of things all linked that he has. He is very poorly. His stomach has stopped working, he is dehydrated because of the heat and reduced intake of water/veg, he has also developed a bit of a cold because he is weak. Treatment today will conist of injections to get his tummy working, injections for fluids, pain relief and maybe something for the cold. The vet found a small lump in his stomach which is either hard poo or something like a bit of plastic he has chewed, that also isn't helping matters. Going back at 5:30pm to see if he has improved any...if not, it's another trip into Glasgow for him tonight for some more of the same. It's in a rabbit's nature to ignore pain and injuries, so he has probably been ill for a good few days now, hence the added ailments like dehydration :( He still has a twinkle of mischief in his eyes, it's up to him an the vets now. I've my fingers, toes and eyes crossed for him to pull through

Vet phoned to say he has responded well to the treatment so far, so would like to do an xray to see if that blockage is serious/big enough to prevent his stomach getting better. If this is the case, he will need a wee operation in Glasgow tonight thumbsup Just need to wait and see, things are looking up, even her voice was quite upbeat. Nowhere near out of the woods, but there are less trees now :) Thanks, he needs it! :grouphug:

Dehydration can affect any pets in the heat they are not used to it, bit like us but our beer intake goes up in the heat lol that's why I asked was he drinking. Hope he carries on getting better. I don't need to worry about my dragons in the heat, they bask happily in 110 or more lol keep us informed of his progress. We are all waiting for good news now.
