it streams any videos from my digital camera which i think are AVI files it also does... As unveiled officially, the PS3 video game console supports video and audio formats in MPEG-1 , MPEG-2 (PS,TS) , H.264/MEPG-4 AVC, MPEG-4 SP MUSIC, ATRAC (.oma .msa .aa3) , AAC (.3gp .mp4) , MP3 (.mp3), WAV (.wav) IMAGES. And HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) supporting means that you can use your PLAYSTATION 3 with High-Definition video and audio quality including 7.1 digital audio, Dolby TrueHD, HDTV in resolution 1080p as well as conventional or standard TVs, and more, which you'd never miss out the approach to the High-Definition PS3 movie, PS3 video and PS3 music. On the fly transcoding - therefore PS3 plays anything I got :P (although XBMC over SMB is better for SD)

OTF Transcoding - Converts the files to a support format as and when required
PS3 - PlayStation 3
XBMC - Xbox Media Center (original xbox not the crappy 360)
SMB - Samba = Windows Networking & File Shares
SD - Standard Definition for TVs (televisions) as Xbox does not support HD (high definition)

Better? :D

(I'll let Dan sort his out :D)

Pound for pound, you can't beat a PS3. If you were to buy a Blu Ray player on its own it would cost you more than a PS3! PS3's cost Sony more to produce than they are selling them for so you can't argue with the value. Sony hopes to make its money on the sale of its games, which are getting better by the month. My girlfriend works as a research analyst for all manner of electrical telematics and multi-media stuff, and her company have recently researched the whole Blu Ray vs HD DVD issue. Their finidings are as a result of talking to the electronics companies who will be backing either of the two. The results: they have found companies will be predominantly using Blu Ray for movie releases (plus Sony for Games) and HD DVD mainly in home PC's. So if you want a format for gaming and home movies chose the PS3. thumbsup Incidentally, part of the reason why Blu Ray has won in the movie stakes is because the Japanese porn industry has adopted Blu Ray over HD DVD as its preferred format. And of course Sony own film production and distribution companies.

Interestingly I heard that rumour with regards to the American industry and the HD DVD as preferred format. Makes you wonder if it's true or if it is a wonderful insight into how big money big business decisions are made. <bunch of wankers> :poke:

Everyone says that porn is the reason one will win - it is not! People think this is why VHS won over BetaMax, it wasn't.

quick write up as im at work and theres nothing to do so want to get some sleep in :sleepy:  The console itself looks/feels like a very fancy bit of kit. very well built, can barely hear its even turned on. The dash is quite naff compared to the 360. I still saythe 360 controllers are much better in hand (although i quite like the motion sensors in the ps3 ones) The 2 games i have (genji/heavenly sword) are ok but nothing to shout about, will prob sell on ebay. You can definatly see there is a lot of potensial in the ps3, just needs some great games to show it. I love the achievments on the 360 and think its a shame the ps3 dont have anything like that. I do think the price the ps3 is at now is quite a bargain considering you have the in built blu-ray which i have not been able to experiance yet as i have no blu-ray dvds. I still feel at the moment the 360 is definatly the better gamers console but the ps3 is impressive in its own ways. Hopefully some new games will come out soon to help it shine. thumbsup

motorstorm is good fun as well as resitance fall of man thumbsup

Dont bother with PES2008 its utter junk, its got unforgivable slow doooooooowwwwwwnnnnnnnnn. (this proves it either A) wasnt tested or B) they couldnt get to grips with the PS3 which a lot of reports suggest is the case.

they should be shot down for releasing a game in this state! (glad ive got FIFA 08 on the 360 which up until the last year or 2 was the second choice when it comes to footy games, not any more based on this years so called next gen releases, fifa is much better than PES at this moment in time!)

'Dirt' is a great rally game with top graphics. I've just won an Exige on it! No VX though  Rainbow Six Las Vegas is a good FPS if you're into shooters, but it's no Resistance.
