i also need new fronts but only replaced my rears with brigies a couple of months ago. I should really stick with the same tyre all round......shouldnt i?

Just to clarify (in a very noobie way), having 4 tires on any car that are not all the same, is a very bad idea? Can someone please explain in majorly basic terms why this is? :) Even if the car is not a sports car?

Basically it changes the balance of the car. If everything else remains the same, if your front tyres are more grippy than your rear tyres, then the car will naturally have more of a an oversteery nature when on the limit, compared to if all 4 tyres are the same. And vice-versa if you put stickier tyres on the back - the car will understeer more when approaching the limit.

To have the car handle how Lotus intended, keep all 4 tyres the same. (And get some 16-inch fronts with 195 rubber!! :) )

Well i done it, went and got the 195/45/17 F1's and to be perfectly honest they are amazing. The car feels some much more planted when going around corners in the wet and in the dry. Im running standard suspension and to be honest havnt had any draw backs whatsoever, no rubbing, nothing. I would defonitely recommend them to anyone else over the Bridgies.

I agree with Tolksee on this but to be honest i have still got the Bridgies on the back with no handling alterations apart from alot more grip. I was expecting a bit of oversteer but there isnt really any more than before, infact considerably less. I will get around to gettin F1's on the back but there is stil loads of grip left so cant really justify changed them at the moment. Hmmmm how do i wear out the rear tyres a bit quicker????
