In essence, it will be like bolting Exige stuff on?

It WILL be the same as they are the same IIRC.

The spring rates on the VXR units are about 16% more at the front and 40% more at the rear than my NA. Is this going to upset things? The current geo means very neutral handling so I can't help but wonder how tail happy it would be with 195's on the front along with relatively soft front suspension? This is my only reservation ... otherwise I'm itching to give it a go. I'm assuming I could just bolt it on myself and leave the geo as it is?

When i had the exige stuff put on i had the geo redone to compensate for the slight increase in ride height - maybe not essential but IMHO my properly geo'd car on 17" and exige "felt"better than VXJONS car which had the same geo then had the 17" replaced with 16" on 175s. Jon will no doubt confirm / deny this. I realyl liked the way the car handled before, but it's amazing now.......... I think you are panicing way too much about this - bolt it on - if you don't like it then take it off, and flog it for what you paid for it.......they'll be lining up. .......just don't get me started on the relative merits of 175s vs. 195s  :gayfight:

:yeahthat: My car felt better on the 17in 175 with a good geo thumbsup If your changing to 16in wheels you will need to have the geo redone thumbsup

CAn't believe you were typing for ages and that was the outcome  The question is, will you want 16"s after the exige set up ;)

You can lower the front suspension easily by mounting the Elise/Exige shock bracket set from Elise-shop.

The front ones will fit the VX and lowers the front approx. 15mm. Only worry is that you have to fab a mounting bracket for the ABS unit. Easy...

If this is not low enough, you can always modify the dampers by adding an extra groove for the circlip. As this holds the upper spring platform in place, make it sit higher will lower your ride height. (Or modify them with a thread kit to get an adjustable system...) Will look for some pics.

Some pics of the "Elise shop" shock brackets on my car. I modified them a bit by closing the open top end similar to the OEM brackets. You can see the simple but effective ABS bracket. (LHD style..)
And a pic from the car as it stands. This is a STOCK 2,2 NA, only with the different front mounting shock brackets. (Yes, it needs wider wheels and can go a bit lower... )

And a pic of a modified Bilstein shock. By adding (1 or more, I would make step 5-10-15mm so you can adjust later) grooves for the "lock-clip" you can raise the spring platform and so effectively lower the car. (Don't go nuts with this, as your spring may come loose... BAD!) A 10mm raised platform will lower the 2,2 some 15-20mm. (This is not mine and the added extra grooves looks a bit too wide. And please protect the bare metal...)

I'd go for the Nitrons personally, yes they're more money but I think they're worth it. The Gaz ones for me are just far too soft and bouncey and from what I've heard from those who know what they're talking about. Give Scared Stifff a call and ask them for their opinion.

As a halfway option there is also the new Nitron Racing Reds - although I'm not sure if the S2 Yota engined elise ones are on sale yet.

You've all been very helpful - thanks thumbsup I think I will go with the VXR/Exige stuff first and bolt it on. If I don't like it then I'll flog it and go for Nitrons. If I like them but ride height is the only issue then brackets and a new geo look the best option. Once the VXR stuff is on I'll look at the wheels again. It seems to be a major can of worms what size front to go for but I do know I like the aesthetics of black TD's on a silver car ... that's a start! I'm also uncertain whether to go for 888/A048 and keep my old standard wheels for very wet days or get a more all round tyre on but I guess the worms are escaping everywhere now

They look fantastic except that they are heavier than TD's - that was my deciding factor.

A048s or 888s. I don't think it matters which one. I've run A048s and they were awesome, with the wheels and a good geo - it takes the car to a new level. My next set will be 888s, they cost slightly less and are supposed to be equally as awesome. The hardest part is readjusting to anything other than semi slicks.
