how do you figure that out? mine has run perfectly fine like this for months. the only difference is that it will probably be sending a bit more air through the AMM, can't see how that will kill it really.

I think, from what I understand, is that the oil from the filter can kill the AMM - so in theory a dry filter element (eg paper or foam) would not cause any problems

I can only assume that an over oiled filter would cause problems...

cheers, i suppose that could make sense, if the filter was blathered in oil. mine is oiled and have experienced no problems yet, will see how it goes.........

this is going a little off topic, but have a search. It has been covered many times before. People have used many types of air filters on VXT's, all have sooner or later had there AMM's blow. There is the option of upgrading to the VXR astra/vectra 80mm AMM but can be a bit expensive, this is apparently a bit more robust then the standard VXT AMM.

all VXR's came with a fancy foam air filter. Most of the AMM went tits up within the 1st year (mine at 6k miles).

AMM was replaced uder warranty and a standard OEM paper filter. If you go into the dealer and they pull up the parts list it has 2 air filters listed - the VXR one has a withdrawn flag and it points to the OEM paper part number

All VXT and VXR have a dirty cruddy oil breather in to the intake, which can either vent back to atmosphere and crud up your AMM in certain situations, or be drawn in for normal operationby negative pressure to the turbo and will crud up your intercooler. When you lift off during boost, the throttle body closes and the left over boost tries to get out backwards via the turbo. sometimes the recirc valve is fairly quick to catch it, but not always.

for that very reason i don't have an oil breather into my inlet system, seems a stupid idea to vent shitty oily air into the inlet.....

How difficult is fitting? Just 4 bolts/studs and a jubilee clip? Any potential pitfalls or problems?

I would like one of these but i thought group buys are supposed to be cheaper £80 on here apposed to £77.50 on eBay. Could you do a more competitive price? :)
