Do we get a summary!? 10 pages of 'content' in that last link!
TMS advertised they could take a VX to a Stage 5. Andrew said yes please, here's lots of money. TMS said here's your car. Andrew said this isn't what you promised. Andrew drove to CMS, and said please sort out the issues that TMS have left with me. CMS said bloody hell this is hard, but here we've sorted out the issues

Would be pretty fcuking ironic thoughNot sure VXR36's common sense would allow him to buy that from TMS, given their history.
Correct

Sprinkle in lots of he said, you said, they said, you c***'s, w******s, and i'm telling my solicitor and it's yours for a not inconsiderable sum.
Amazed your planning on this Andrew, make sure you get everything in writing with planned delivery tighter than a duck's sit upon before any work starts on this. Make sure it don't hurt as much as before.
Good luck with it though, will def want to have a listen in some good tunnels.

I don't see an issue with converting a vxr to a V8, personally I would prefer to use the best base car I could find
![]()
but then a 2.5 Harrop sc engine and 6 speed M32 box would be my engine choice for a vxr
hmm, take one VXT, remove engine and gearbox, add V8, its already had the suspension done?
might as well start with a VXT or all your really acheiving is to destroy one of 65 ever built. The basics are 90% the same
Personally I'd sell te VXR for a nice chunk of cash then buy a cheap turbo (or even n/a) as a base car for something that extreme

The transverse LS4 mentioned on this thread a while back looks like a really interesting idea. I wonder if it would fit in a standard VX220 subframe/body? I guess you'd have to mod the boot and maybe add a fastback sort of thing, but that would be easy compared to what's involved for the caral.

Looks a bit tight maybe

Or there's the Volvo/Yamaha transverse V8 that I heard was very small?
I guess fitting a transverse engine should help matters - trying to fit anything in longitudinally (even a V6) is probably going to require subframe mods, and probably moving the wheels back if you don't want the driveshafts at some crazy angle.

I appreciate this doesn't have much to do with the Caral option, but:

tried looking on the GM power train site about what transverse gearbox housing would mate up and could only find auto boxes, but could assume that a manual box could substitute
in essence its as long as an I4 , but as wide as a v6
Hydra-Matic 4T65-E
Type: four-speed front-wheel-drive, electronically controlled, automatic overdrive transaxle with electronically controlled torque converter clutch.
Max Gearbox Torque: 400 lb.-ft.
Weight: 214 lbs.

compared to
Getrag F23

would the GM Europe F35 be a better choice ( more maximum torque , lighter )?

Just did a bit of poking around on this too. It looks like the bolt pattern is the GM metric pattern:
http://en.wikipedia...._metric_pattern
But the starter is mounted on the gearbox, rather than the block - so unless some serious engineering to the bellhousing is involved it may limit choice. Interestingly it shares the same bolt pattern as the GM 60 degree V6 (and some I4s too), so I would have thought some manual boxes would be available somewhere... Still, it's a huge undertaking trying to source all the relevant bits from america.

1) Crank is 10mm shorter at the snout.
2) Crank is 3 mm shorter on the flywheel end.
3) Bell housing bolt pattern is the GM Corporate FWD bolt pattern, not the RWD SBC or LSx bolt pattern so you wont be able to bolt up a T-56, etc.
4) Starter is mounted on the transmission, no allowance for block mount starter as on the RWD LSx blocks.
5) Water pump is offset for for clearance reasons.
LS4 is 5.3L that uses the 243 casting LS6 heads but with the softer LS1 valve springs and uses GM's D.O.D.

All aluminium, 4.4l, 311bhp, 440Nm torque
It looks really tidy, unfortunately I get the impression that it comes with an auto-only box too? And also probably haldex 4wd.
Also the only Volvo I saw on ebay that had it in cost 20k

Given it was designed for Volvo though I'd be pretty surprised if it didn't share the same bolt patterns as some other volvo car?

Just thought I'd link to the Volvo/Yamaha 60 degree transverse V8...

Isnt that what Noble are using in their new M600, albeit with twin turbo?

I would imagine so, and Koenigsegg were thinking about using it for something too? I don't know if that was just another imaginary car though :/Isnt that what Noble are using in their new M600, albeit with twin turbo?

It seems to me that the NA bhp out of it is actually better than the Jaguar engine manages too? I guess it's not as easy to get superchargers and stuff for it though.
