How are you fixed for work in the future Duncan? Fancy a bit of tank dropping on my car? Might be a good time to try Walshy's rent-a-ramp/lift place.....

Well done Cliffie I imagine there will be a few takers as the oem ones seem to be dying off

You don't need to drop the tank to replace the pump it can be done from the top trough the access cover.

Pump change with tank in

I'll try to find the link I found

Fail :P unless the hole has been enlarged or maybe even enlarge and leave tank in while cutting (sounds dodgy though)

Interested to see if it can though ;)

Think it would be a good idea up on a lift as it'll just be too painful on the ground or on axle stands (I've already got the ProAlloy tank in there so will be a bit bigger). Passenger seat and undertrays have been off/out of the car for 3 months now. :(

I'm pretty sure it wont come out through the access hole on the VX. I'd definitely enlarge the hole as part of the replacement process - would be nuts not to. Apparently, Sinclaire's will enlarge the hole on the Elise/Exige with the tank in-situ but, not sure whether that would apply with a larger tank already installed. Plus, I need to replace one of the fuel lines that got damaged when the tank went in originally. A certain Europe blue driving Milton Keynes member is threatening to take a Dremel to his access hole.......

I did mine with the tank in place. I used a panel saw with a short blade for the cutting and I put a cover over the tank to catch all the swarf. You can feel in the original cover to see how close you are so a bit of care is all thats required.

Would make life massively easier if I could enlarge the hole with the tank in-situ (although I may have to drop it to replace my broken fuel line anyway). Do you reckon a nibbler would be a sensible tool for the job? Less mess and no sparks or broken Dremel cutting discs flying around. Plus it's also a tool I haven't got in the arsenal and I love a new power tool. :D Damn, electric ones are expensive. :( But, air powered ones are really cheap as long as it's no thicker than 1.5mm steel. :)

Cant see why not. Its only alloy your cutting and its less intrusive into the tank space that a panel saw.

Yes please, is it drill fitting or self powered.

The more holes, the lighter. Although maybe not the stronger.

Glenco have had a standard VX220 in-tank pump/sender unit off me and have developed a direct replacement fit kit that uprates the pump to a 255 litres per hour pump that is good for up to 500BHP (they say).

Just curious.. Do they retain the OEM two-stage pump design?

I know that some people already fit an off-the-shelf Walbro or similar pump in the OEM housing. This gives a lot higher fuel capacity, but loses the OEM 2-stage design (pump first stage fills a 'bucket' where the second stage is submerged and gets it's fuel from so there's about a 1.5L buffer) and as a result it often makes fuel starvation in corners much worse.

Bye, Arno.

It will be a Walbro pump but I have never come accross a kit for the VX up till now. If it has been done then it has been kept well quiet.

I would have thought Vocky and Techie would have heard about it before now.
