This thread has definitely sidetracked somewhat. Going back to the OP's question regarding stage 4... They rarely come up for sale (yes there were a couple recently...Snoopstah etc) and I guess you really have to judge the likelihood of finding one that will meet your requirements in condition and any additional extras. As you said, you'll never get your money back like alot of mods...will it be a keeper...? Good question though chinky chinky

so all you really have to do then is if you are on a budget then swap turbos and fit a bigger intercooler and then get a map chucked on it and then play a waiting game with the clutch you might aswell do it to yours, as it sounds like you are happy with the car just not the power

Buying a stage 4 sensibly could be cheaper because you never get all your money back on modifications. However it will (IMHO) be much more satisfying if you spec the work you want done yourself and if your VX is a minter this could be the way to go.

I would modify your own car as you know the history of it and as you say it is in good condition. I would go the charge cooler route as it has been proved by lotus and then Alex at pro alloy that intercoolers donot work with the limited air flow over the right side pod. thumbsup Steve

Proven nothing. I thought we'd already thrashed this one to death  . The MMG intercooler has been proven to work on a Stage 4 VXR.

Links - Stage 4 with Intercooler
Further debate on Intercoolers and Chargecoolers

For the stage 4 you will also need the high flow injectors. You can run stage 4 with 2.75 inch exhaust but you will get better gains with a 3 inch.

ETA But I will agree with your statement Steve  about upgrading your own car as you know its history.

Proven to work on one run maybe. and yes you really will need much bigger injectors with the amount of fuel that the engine will need to keep it cool.

Bob if I said I would pay for you to have fitted either a charge cooler or a larger intercooler, which would you chose? In this senario I'm a millionaire and money is no object.

Then I'd have a DB9 :P

If I were to fit an Intercooler or a Chargecooler? Well then I'd chose the Intercooler. MUCH easier to fit. If I'm not fitting it and I'm having it as part of my Stage 4 package then I'd be straight to MMG no question. I have already had my stage 2 there and trust Liam completely.

Erm driving to Le Mans in 27 degree heat and sitting in traffic would amount to hours. Then on track I believe was best part of a day. Hardly ONE run!

You must be a politician dodging questions like that.
I agree fitting it yourself the I/c is easier but if you didn't have to and I were to pay for everything you would chose the c/c.

Maybe thats what I should do as change of career.

Now your putting words in my mouth. I didn't say I'd have the c/c. I said I'd have the IC.

Bob I still have my standard intercooler, do you want it so you can mount it laterally to your standard one for more cooling. :gayfight: Steve

Ha ha I was just thinking that.

So if I were to take you and your car to your beloved Liam and pay him to fit either a C/c or his I/c you would pick the I/c!

Liar :D

Harsh :P I wouldn't one day think, Mmmmmmm you know what, my Intercooler needs upgrading what should I do? My next mod is likely to be the suspension. IF I were to NEED to change my IC, i.e. go for Stage 3 or Stage 4 then yes I'd go to MMG and have the IC.

If there was one for sale that looked good i'd buy one already done, if i had a chance to save 10k+ then definatly thumbsup In the intercooler debabte, i have a cc sat in the garage so thats my choice. If i didnt though i'd prob wait a while longer and see the results from more people fitting the intercooler. If no probs occurred then would prob of gone that way. Has any more people bought and fittied it yet?

I think there are a few with the MMG stage 4, so I would imagine they will have the uprated IC.
