Might be going for an MMG map in the spring, anyone had any issues over the years?

Given your power background I guessed you'd quickly be tempted to go for a map Lee. : thumbsup :

Hi Lee, I first ran MMGs stage 1+ and now run stage 2. No problems at all and I can vouch for the difference it makes to the car. Try and do all your mods first before you re map and therefore you can reduce the cost of upgrading like I have 👍

That's right Ken :-) it's not exactly slow as standard just miss the midrange punch that the Mazda had :-) Cheers Turboboy that's nice to hear! Does stage1 make a big difference and what extra mods will I need for stage2 Thanks

Stage 1 makes a considerable difference especially mid range. Only thing required additionally for stage 2 is an updated exhaust and that's the expensive bit @around £1k...

Stage 1 also gets rid of the flat spot that was created to get around the emissions by Vauxhall.... Well worth doing believe me

Well no it doesn't , none of the tuners have bothered to make any improvements to driveability , the part throttle maps are all still terrible.

This is one area that I have spent months working every day to get this perfect.

Remember tuners are lazy and only bother to change a few cells for wide open throttle ignition timing , what works for them on a heavy Vauxhall rep mobile, is not suitable for a lightweight rwd sports car.

So the factory map is the best for drive ability? Plus Liam at MMG spent years perfecting his maps

Or get a used 2.5" system from somebody upgrading to 3"   thumbsup

in the grand scheme of things, the backbox makes little difference from stage 1 to stage 2. The turbine wheel is the restriction

common components not changed from standard to stage 1 or 2

- the standard intercooler does not get good enough air flow , so this is the limit

- standard k04-0024 turbo compressor wheel becomes much less efficient

- flywheel and clutch , this is the limit of overboost midrange torque

- probably the most important, the 'black' 370cc fuel injectors , they are at 100% duty , so no safety margin with these more optimistic  high boost maps

worthwhile mods for any stage

- colder range spark plugs

- ally turbo intake pipe

- balance shafts delete

- 470cc vxr 'light blue' injectors

so taking all that in context , the map is not really solving problems itself, just causing new ones

May be aswel just having a mild map to lose the flat spot and say 230/230 shouldn't stress any components at that level

Out of interest, what is the problem with the "part throttle" maps?

I hate to disagree Sizetenboots because I know that no one understands maps better than you. Big respect. However, I can tell you for sure that remapping the car at MMG got rid of that flat spot in my case.... Jon

Well I had the stage 1 map uploaded today without the precat so only maybe a 10% power hike but' the midrange is sooo much more in terms of response/pulling power.. Like I said to Liam 'it feels like the handbrakes been took off' Probably do the pre cat next time but impressed!

The flat spot/dip has been filled with goodness, no question about it pulls harder earlier and the revs climb quicker! Think I'll go for the pre cat next but that's where it ends, spent enough already on this toy car lol
