So you will need two new keys with the same code otherwise your original key will not work...?

Not necessarily, no. As long as you have the security code, a lap top and the OP-COM you can programme any new key with a transponder.

Can you re-code an old key?

The ecu can be programmed to "accept" up to 5 or 6 different key codes, so re-learning an old key (that was erased from the ecu's memory) is just a matter of re-programming. thumbsup

Hmm, bet you could use this key and blipper to replace the existing seperate key and alarm fob arrangement (Im sure guy did something similar yonks ago only with a 'flip out' style key).. http://cgi.ebay.co.u...=item25602963a4 and http://cgi.ebay.co.u...=item255b578801 Seems its the right transponder type due to the 296 (If I understand correctly..)

Just want to add that i bought one of these last February and could not get my op-com to reprogramme the transponder chip but i do have a spare key now. The transponder chip has a different code than Corsas and other Vauxhalls.

I don't have the Security Pass card, but I have a spare key (unprogrammed).

That is assuming you have the Security Pass which is another £30 if you haven't!

Does this mean you can actually buy a replacement Security Pass card?? Well bugger me, I never knew that. Thanks for that info thumbsup, where from? Any Vauxhall dealer?

Not on these ones. The one I linked to is the 'D-Series' transponder which is in the VX220 key.

See page 48 >here<.

No, just a new one.

Certainly does. You need to bring about £32, your V5 and your drivers license (to prove address) to any Vauxhall dealer and they should get it in 3-4 days thumbsup

The '296' is just the shape of the actual key. The important bit is that the transponder is the D-Series. So you need to find a 296 shape key with the D-series transponder for it to work with the VX.

Right so you need the car. What other uses does the OPCOM have? Fault code reading? Might be worth getting one

I've got one if it doesn't work

yes m8 the programming picks up the code from the chip thats in the key so if you dont tell it to accept the chips code it wont unlock the immobiliser.

Correct type, but uncut, keys don't work... They almost do, but not quite.
