Hmm just hard to get my head around. I mean the pull in the stage 3 VXR was just insane it kept pulling strong with lots of torque. The VX doesnt seem to have much torque and after second gear it doesnt pull very hard, theres a big difference and a lot less power if theres nout wrong with the car. If i did a vid of the speedo, pulling from second, then one pulling from third and so on, could you tell if its slower than it should be?

Well the astra is a notorious torque steerer and probably not getting the power down well may make it feel more frantic than belies it's actual forward progress

FFS. Just go and get the fcuking car checked out by somebody who knows how they're meant to work (not some backstreet laptop jockey who thinks he's a tuner because he can download a map). Dreaming about Stage 3 and Stage 4 conversions isn't going to sort whatever your existing problem is. Posted Image

Obviously im not going to go stage 3/4 yet, im going to get the car looked at. All im saying is if theres something wrong with the car and it needs fixed, theres gonna have to be a lot of difference to be the same as the VXR or beat it. Thats all, just everyones saying it should be quicker

I've had a quick read through this thread. But it was quick. I'm not 100% sure if you are saying your car is stage 2? If it is, who did it, and what have they done to it? Again, if it is, it sounds like it may need looking at. There are all sorts of things that could be causing poor performance. Trying to second guess it, is like looking for a needle in a haystack. As others have said, take it somewhere so they can take a good look at it. Your question going from stage 2 to stage 4. Well most of the hardware required for a stage 4 is still required. Stage 2 is considerably cheaper as you are essentially getting the most out of a lot of the original hardware. Stage 4 requires injectors, turbo, large intercooler (or CC), preferably 3" exhaust system, clutch and preferably flywheel and remap. Currently my existing (original) clutch is holding up to the job (luckily). It is running more power and torque than it is specified to.

Yes its stage 2, it was done years ago at Thorney. Got the reciepts and graphs, 242bhp Milltek exhaust and remap. Rest of the car is standard as far as i know

Where could i take it in the north east, newcastle area? A place who deals with VX220's, lotus etc

Between gear changes when you come off boost if you have the air box mod it makes a swoosh noise similar to a quiet dump valve. But otherwise no, could be a boost pipe off? Some times makes a fluttering noise, this could be a faulty recirc valve.

My recirc valve split on my astra, easy fix but didnt sound anything like this. It sounds like a soft whistle, when i put my foot on the pedal i can hear it but i dont need to be going fast i could just be building my speed up slowly, can also hear it a little slowing down sometimes. Might just be me cause i hear it every time i drive but it seems to be getting worse

Or a small boost leak on any of the pipes? Can you pressure test the system? As above I'd get it check as soon as someone can recommend somewhere.

Don't take it to Lotus, it's a vauxhall with a vauxhall engine problem. Good luck.

Did the other stage 2 you had a go in sound similar? Really think the same as others mate, get a specialist have a look at it if your not sure what your doing or what sounds it's making. Bringing it to the national should clear a few things up for you as there's loads of us there so you have more cars to compare it too.

No i couldnt hear the whistle noise in his VX. He said there might be water on the spark plugs which might be making the engine rev on its own etc but i've changed them and no change. So the engine revs on its own a little, sometimes hear a ticking noise when cold and a whistle noise when driving... great, hope its nothing too serious :( Cant believe i've spent 12k on this
