JG it is connect the same way as oe, the only difference is the wider span of the bracket ;)

The stresses on the bolts in that mounting arrangement shouldn't be much different to the original mounting approach.

Yes it is, its completely different.

On the standard engine,. the mounting is bolted on the engine on the horizontal plane. so the bolts are stressed along their length (which is what they are designed to do). on the above configuration there is now a sheer stress across the bolt, which they don't like at all. On the standard arrangement you also benifit from having a greater surface contact area which helps.
I can work out the stresses and strains if i had a few measurements, the rough weight of the engine, and the relative locations of the mounts to COG. Big enough bolts may take it, its just not very good practice imo. This might illustrate it better.

to qualify, I meant the stresses compared to the original mounting of the VW engine, not the Vauxhall engine. You can see the original mounting here:

Ah i see what you mean, sorry my mistake, i was comparing with original vx. The distance between the car mounting and the engine mounting bolts on the VAG looks to be quite a lot less than on the VX one?

JG we will let you off, it sounded good :D ;) and very valid point raised You are correct approx 25% wider between mounting points - would need to read my notes to confirm the ratio difference between oe and my ones. There will only be one bottom gearbox mount v let / leh 4 mount. Discussions with vibra technics reference this when I got the uprated mounts and stated 3 was actually better than 4 so not bothered to address how I would get the 4th :D vag applications are ALL 3 mounting points :) DG

I'd be more concerned with fatigue cracking at the very sharp corners of that notch

The sheer on those two bolts looks pretty unkind? I think i'd want some form of triangulation, or at least some form of mounting in the horizontal plane rather than the vertical. Great project though. thumbsup

Was raising my eyebrows too when I saw those mounting bolts. Like this they will see some massive torque load, like JG pointed out.
Edit; now saw the other posts. Still have my thoughts as the torque arm is a bit longer than then OEM VAG mount.

Christ, I thought it was a squeeze with the standard Z22SE and a supercharger in there, doesn't look like there's any room forward or rearward of the engine now. :o Is everything on the engine, that needs to be on there (turbo, manifold, etc)?

From what Dg was saying there will be half inch spare at the back so no need to hack away at the bot  i stand to be corrected by him

May be an idea to make the clam quick release to aid in maintanence. R-clips and hinges are the way forward ;)

All better update when not on phone but as luke states clam and boot lid fitting just to confirm clearence. It is quite a tall engine, certainly more than oe options. Engine and box fully loaded, and 1/2 inch is been generous on clearence for 3" downpipe but does mean no boot cutting. Other than downpipe clearence between chassis and engine there is a fair bit of clearence, its the turbo thats close again to chassis but more than enough for engine movement not that it moves at all on uprate x3 vibra mounts lol Shafts cut to size and drawing for bung to join then done and will make and finish this week. Having a head scratch with cc or locqtion but a few options. Coolant hoses alligned as is vac and fuel, wiring I have avoided for a sunny lazy day lol. Need order some metal pipe work for boost and exhaust to get stuck into this also Nearly time to pull back out and clean box, get diff in and clutch etc. Beefed up head pump and final silicon order etc. Oh and brake fluid line to clutch feed in draft fitment DG

Oh inlet side there is no clearence, well only a touch to take into account any engine movement.
