20bhp is a pretty big increase. I don't think you will gain that sort of increase just by changing to a large IC / CC

It sounds like you have most of the components of a stage 4 anyway. Do you know what power you are currently running?

I was told by the previous owner 250 and I would say that seems about fair for the spec. I obviously plan to have it remapped up to the higher figure, just was wondering if a cheap intercooler option existed for such a ballpark figure.
Sorry for stirring the trouble up again, should maybe be a banned topic until someone comes up with empirical data one way or the other

In answer to your question. I believe I have around 270 with an uprated intercooler and a stage 3 map. The cooler I have is OK for standard up to stage 3 and is I think £565.

i still dont understand why you arent considering stage 4 as dont you have all the components by a chargecooler or stage 4 intercooler?

I think the op did say he has a clutch vxr Turbo and injectors and exhaust. I agree with Joe. You've got all the other components for a stage 4. If you are changing the standard intercooler you may as well get something that suits stage 4. At least that way you have the option of a stage 4 and if you don't like it you can scale it back/ have it tweaked to something you like.

I think the logistics was the main issue for the op since he live in NI? So a remap is a pretty expensive affair if hes got to come all the way over here for it.

That's the point si. If changing the ic in readiness for remap then get the larger ic or cc so there is more option when it comes to remap time.

On the subject of chargecoolers I got some good back-to-back data from Monza and Silverstone on how my new, reconfigured Pro-Alloy system compares to a normal one. Its a good 30 degrees cooler the whole time, mega pleased with the result.

great results after all the work you've put in on it.

I've given up commenting on this subject on here now, it's just not worth the grief

One thing I'm good at is getting the right people on the job :-) Must get you trackside at some point!

I have a full Larini on it currently.
I don't want the dynamics to change to those which I have been told belong to a stage 4 car. I want the same relatively progressive delivery just a bit more initial shove.
It's compounded by the fact that no one in northen Ireland can map these engines reliably.

Just send your ecu to someone then, just get them to load a generic stage 4 map. Simples.

Jesus Joe, twice in one day. I agree :o

Mapping at stage 4 level requires it to be programmed, checked and tweaked until right.

Yeh exactly that never happens, if you just go for a standard stage 4 then your map will be the same as the other stage 4 down the road, as much as they will try and convince they made it especailly for your car, all they do is check the fuelling etc to make sure everything is ok. Odds are map will be exactly the same one as the sold to every other stage 4..... :)

A simple solution hutchy is just to fit an intercooler if that is what you want to do, then send your ecu to someone and get them to load a stage 4 map on it, monitor your intake temps via op-com (you can also make sure you dont have any error codes) or a scangauge/turbogauge and if they get too hot then you know its time to upgrade your cooling. You could always take the car to any rolling road to make sure its not running lean or anything, or buy a wideband lambda your self..... Simples? :ninja:
