Hi all

Looking for a bit of advice.

I don't have a garage and the sheds are in a right old two and eight, packed to the gunwales and not suitable for regularly accessing stuff.

One of the problems this gives me is where to keep the spanners and things that it looks like I'll regularly need as a returning VXer. I'm having to use a cupboard under the stairs in the house and so I don't have room for a proper tool chest.

I've got an old crappy cantilever toolbox which is rusting, way past it and was never much good anyway (crappy hinges, handle and flimsy panels) and so it needs replaced.

I'd like something fairly light as manoeuvring it in and out of the cupboard is going to mean stretching over several other things which need to be readily available near the Oompaloompa-sized door and would otherwise be a royal PITA to move out of the way. Ideally it wouldn't have the external cantilevers as they're vulnerable to bending and get in the road when the cupboard is getting packed Tetris-style. Lastly, the cantilevered tray arrangement is useful as I like to have the tools organised together to save time searching for the right stuff, so although I don't want the external cantilever arrangement, it would be useful to have readily accessible compartments.

Anyone got any suggestions? I've had a look on fleaBay and found this which looks like it may be reasonable quality (but pricey compared to other fairly standard-looking toolboxes and not really meeting my requirements above) and Amazon where I found...nothing inspirational.

Cheers

I prefer none cantilever ones...I have a big plastic Milwalkwee one and the big space is necessary for things like multimeters. Only use it for the track though...i have myriad tool sets.

Looks indentical, and cant mess with the price. Perhaps a bigger one would suit your needs better though. Plastic with metal latches is a good combination of cheap, tough and light mind.

Cheers. That may work. Will still look for something which has a bit more in the way of compartments though.

I bought my brother one of the Halfords 3 drawer metal cabinets (portable) with the mats that allow you to arrange tools and sockets how you want them. Was particularly good value.

in the past I had grabbed a icecream tub and chucked in the 10mm 13mm spanner, few sockets, spare plugs+crank sensor, wirestripper, tape
