Ok cool, Thanks Joe, i thought that would be the case. Unfortunately its on so tight on the old one i'm struggling to get it off! Yep, i had thoguht about the 2.4 manifold but i'm hoping to have you and Lee work the SC magic on it towards the end of the year before it goes back on the road so seems a bit of a waste, unless of course i put if on and you'll swap it for an SC? Then i'm going on the hunt now!!!

Maybe it's an X20XEV or C20LET one?

With a spare Saturday morning on my hands, down tot he workshop i went!

After the confusion with my clutch cover, i removed the new one from the new engine and measured it up wihtt he one that was on the old engine. The "Fingers" were exactly the same length and th cover near identical. I'm not sure if it's not just an OEM one sprayed red!!!

Posted Image

I then re-aligned the clutch and cover and re attached to the engine. Then after what seemed like an ice age......it happened....

Posted Image

The cars heart transplant was complete....ish!!

Engine back in, new mounts in place and a load of things to plug back in!! Only slight issue is that the new pulley tensioner didn't arrive in time so i just hope i can get it onto the side without taking it all back out again!

The new Engine seems a lot cleaner of general gunk than the old one, Cliffie must get the credit there!
Posted Image

And after a swift stop on Firday to the home of the shinest V (But a little poorly upon arrival) VX in town....a purchase from JG wasn't fitted just yet, but it was so clean i couldn't resist a picture!

Posted Image

Posted Image

Now the next large chunk of cash is needed. order to be placed this week for :
Brake discs and 1144's
Brake fluid
Tensioner pulley (When it arrives!)
Engine Oil
Lambda sensors
Aux Belt
Oil filter
Spark Plugs
Rocker gaskets
Battery

and last but not least and most expensive....a pro alloy rad (I just can't bring myself to take a punt on the chinese ones on eBay!!)

Hopefully over the next couple of weeks when it all arrives and if i can remember where everything goes, she may eventually start.

The plan was to have the engine running before i head off to Le Mans next month, fingers crossed i'm still on target!

If anyone has anything on the list above....feel free to OM me and save me some money! :)

Jon I have some used 1144s which have good depth left on. No worries if you are after new ones.

did you measure the installed height of the clutch covers and have you bled the clutch and tested it works - I always check the clutch works as soon as two bolts are in the bellhousing.

Yep both clutch covers were the same, not filled the systems as the brakes and ABS unit are not hooked up yet so cant test it. Goose, thanks the offer, i may well take you up on those, ill look for some discs and let you know. Jon

With a bundle of new shiney bits arriving from variouos places this week, it was time to get back into the overalls!!

Posted Image

New Disc's and 1144's

New Tensioner Pulley

New Belt

Oil FIlter and a rocker cover gaskets set

Started by fitting the new disc's, not fitted the pads yet though as need to get some copper grease.....which i'd forgottern!

Posted Image

Nice to finally see the rust and crud removed from the old girl!!

With the rear drivers wheel off, i set about the new tensioner and belt for the alternator....

Posted Image

Posted Image

How on earth do you tighten it up into position to keep the belt tight? I could not get the lug into place and tighten up?

Muppet moment!

Old Oil Filter seemed in good nick, but for the sake of a couple of quid, was worth changing "Whilst i was ther"....god that phrase is haunting me!!!

Posted Image

Posted Image

And thats how i left it, after a clean up of a massive pile of boxes and wrapping of new parts, the garage was a little cleaner. Still a long way to go however....

Now the dilema, i'll post up seperately!!

Okeydokey, after a moment of doubt last week, i went straight back to it this week!

Firstly, Thanks to Tom220 for spending the cash i had saved for the new Pro Alloy Rad!! I suppose that will need to wait till next month!!

Luckily i was already heading up to the North so was able to collect the bits en route. Neither of the bits i bought i ACTUALLY need at the moment....but i couldn't resist!

I wanted a hardtop for the car but the OEM one i have is pretty heavy and in too good a condition to chop up. When Tom mentioned he had this one from an Exige for sale i went for it, meaning i don't mind modifying it for weight and also my OEM Hard Top can then be sold to someone who will actully get some use out of it!

The scoop won't go to anything at the moment, i'm not doing the bodywork for a while yet so have some time to ponder the options!

Second on the list was the Jimsan Diffuser, i have always really liked the shape of the side profile compared to some of the others, they don't come up often and even though, like i said, i don't need it for some time....it was good to snap one up!

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Once i had finsihed pretending i was further down the process than i was  .....i cracked on with the engine.

First up was the pulley tensioner issue i had last week.... After removing this, tightening and loosening that i was getting nowhere so i took the whole pulley off for a look and the solution hit me in the face with a stupidity punch i deserved.....

Posted Image

With the pulley in its correct position and tightend, i put the belt round the lower pulley, a socket drive into the "Square" on the Pully and twisted bringing the spring action up, looped the belt over the altenator and released. All tight and correct. Only took 2 weeks to fathom out!!

No the questions.....feel free to throw any advice my way, on some occasions i will accept being called a dumbass.....

Are these wires on the Starter Motor the right way round? I have since swapped them over, but have seen them in images on the net both ways round....confusing?

Posted Image

Whats this? It's on the same wiring bit as the starter motor but looked briken to me and i can't work out where it would go?

Posted Image

Whats this? and where does it go? It seems to reach all the way over towards the coolant tank....

Posted Image

Where does the other end of this one go? It comes out of the Rocker cover and round the back along the bulkhead following the pipe for the collant tank

Posted Image

Where does this sensor screw onto?

Posted Image

Thats your homework for today, answers on a postcard, thanks in advance for the help  :grouphug: I genuinely thought i had bagged, labelled and marked up everythign enough to just "Pop" it ll back together!

I finished by test fitting the exhaust with the new manifold, i need some new bolts for the manifold but it looked more like a car that may one day start again than it has for a good few months!!!

Posted Image

I was planning on wrapping the exhaust with the material head shielding you can get, has anyone done it here? fancy passing on the "How to"?

With Le Mans only 3 weeks away, my target was to at least have the engine running before i went, looks like i may slip slightly behind that date but hopefully not by too far!!
