"The FIA has opened a selection process for a new team to join the Formula 1 grid from as early as the 2015 campaign, a move that would bring the number of outfits involved in the sport back up to 12.

Interested parties have been requested to register "a formal expression of interest" with the governing body's Secretariat by 5pm CET on Friday January 3, following which each party will be given further details."

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if a VAG brand enters, especially as turbo's are such a big part of their engine offerings. Maybe time for Audi to move across, instead of going head to head in LMP1 with a sister company in Porsche. Only problem is, I think the LMS works well for Audi from a PR perspective (as it also does for Porsche). So maybe they'll dust off the Bugatti, Lamborghini or even Auto Union brands for an F1 foray. Oh for Lamborghini to give Ferrari a battering in F1. Ferruccio would have loved it. :D

realistically only Toyota have the money and resources , maybe as Lexus

as the saying goes , The best way to make a small fortune in racing, is to start with a large one

Ffs are we having an apple moment where f1 claims to have invented the term 'powertrain' when its been in the lowly oem world for nearly 2 decades

I think that article has that term wrong. I thought it was 'power unit'.

Did they do that merger with Sauber then?

That's a real shame for Caterham this season because I don't think they'll have anyone to race.  :(
I think once the cost caps come in in 2015 it will help them dramatically, because they are operating on less and a quarter of what the big teams are spending.

HRT F1 ( ex Campos Meta 1 and Hispania Racing ) , went at the end of 2012

Seems today that Sutil has a contract with Sauber , which still leaves Gutierez unconfirmed as his teammate.

Bianchi seems to be confirmed with Marussia
