You've got it all wrong Andrew/Stewy. If everyone just agreed with me, there would be nothing to fight about. :) But really, the cold war was about religion ?

more a Cult, but its the same thing really

just the Cult tends to replace the top office job (god as you might put it) with a real person, so in some aspects I have a little bit of respect for Cults

As a side note, peace and cured illness is a really really bad thing for the planet. We as humans are a virus on this planet, we consume all resources to hand and demand more to the breaking point in some cases.

Less humans are needed, not more!

I'm not some hippy jolly nice chap either. I don't believe in such grand scale man made climate change, and I really really don't believe what changes are occurring can be reversed (that's real mankind arrogance).

Long live the v8/10/12 :)

For those of you who have argued that God doesn't exist from a scientific materialistic point of view, here's a conundrum.

There is (allegedly) no evidence that God exists.  Science on the other hand is the arbiter of all that's real, all that's measurable, except for dark matter and of course the even stranger "Quintessence", dark matter that changes with time, although their existence can be posited through quantum theory.

So, according to science, anything that can't be measured or posited by quantum (or any other) theory isn't real, it doesn't exist.  So the question is, where in science is there any measurement of a person's consciousness?  The answer is quite simple, there isn't, anywhere.  The effects of consciousness can be measured but actual consciousness itself?  There is none, all evidence of the actual existence of pure consciousness is anecdotal.  Tell me about it.   There is not even any scientific theory that supports consciousness.  We all have it, we all know it exists, and yet there is absolutely no scientific evidence whatsoever in support of it's existence.  It's just taken for granted.

From this you could logically draw the conclusion that things do most definitely exist that are beyond the ability of science to understand because science absolutely does not understand what consciousness is, and the irony is that science, that is, knowledge, all knowledge (and phenomenal experience) is founded in consciousness.

But, once it's irrefutably established that there is one single thing that exists but science cannot define, and yet, science takes that thing's unproven existence for granted, a whole can of worms is opened.  What else exists that science is unable to see or define?

If your denial of God is based on lack of scientific evidence, your argument  is invalid.

You don't need anything as intangible as consciousness. How about gravity? How does it work? Is there a graviton? The key difference between science and religion is that science doesn't give up, it keeps an open mind. It accepts that some things can't (yet) be explained and continues to explore ALL possibilities while searching for evidence to support each theory - even when there's evidence that one theory looks almost certain it continues to challenge alternative theories in search of a better explanation (ie. Newton vs Einstein..) It certainly never just says 'I don't know. Let's just make sh*t up and tell everyone they have to believe it or they'll die a horrible death for all eternity'

I'm happy to say that Quantum physics and all that guff under it about dark matter etc is just a blag for funding and to not be useful for anything

That's exactly what I say.  Never mind billions on CERN, and sending ment to Mars etc.  Get your ferking priorities right and and find a cure for cancer and all those other illnesses that we have no cure for before undulging in all those things that bring little or no benefit to the average person on the street, someone who absolutely doesn't give a toss about such far fetched things especially if/when their nearest and dearest is at death's door because of some presently incurable malady.  Or, it is treatable, but while Vodaphone (and all the rest of them) owes the country 6 billion in tax, the NHS can't afford to fund the treatment.

So you can believe and worship and obey him and then get eternal life, end off simple 👍😄 The God which ever one you believe in needs to be worshiped or he/she gets very pissed off and burns you for ever more even if your a jolly nice chap who helps old ladies across the road 😂 Burn, burn forever if you won't get down on blended knee and worship me, well how about p*ss off that's not the type of guy I want to know 👍

Have you posted in the correct topic thread?  Shouldn't this be in the Friday Night Whiskey, Talking Shite Thread?

I'm here to play Devil's advocate and not to support either side but that really is a very simplistic anthropomorphic generalised misinterpretation of an amalgam of religious belief.

If you're a non believer fair enough, but at least, as a matter of courtesy for those here who do sincerely believe, present a lucid argument for your position?
