The parts (12 & 13) seize together if the top is done up too tight. Then you need new seals when undoing the two parts. Sounds like yours are fine, congrats.

How are we talking about No. 5? I'm under the assumption it is No. 14, the gasket seal between the oil filter cup & the top that you remove to put the oil filter in?😳

The supply of 14 isn't an issue - that is just a rubber seal.

5 is the part that isn't available, and which is needed if you can't split the filter assembly properly.

Ok, here's an update. Having looked at the material I was thinking of it may have too a high a sealing stress and we may not be able to tighten it down enough. I have since sourced a graphite based material which is much better suited and can be manufactured to size. Being graphite it has a higher compressibility, so will be much easier to seal and is good for 400 deg c. I will be looking to get a trial set made up this week.

Ps.. I've just done an oil filter change and am on the lucky position that the filtet housing came apart as it should. I have been unable to then break the lower part separately so am unable to test these seals. So I am looking for a Guinea pig.... is there anyone who currently needs a new set of seals who would be willing to trial these? I would supply them foc, along as they were fitted asap and feedback given. This will then allow me to source a collection so the orh can benefit.

Pps... Whilst the graphite material is much better, it is more costly - but would still be looking at £15 a pair.

I've just changed mine, but the car still isn't back on the road yet, so would be happy to pop on a pair of these to test if you want. I've got to get the car back together and through the MOT before I could do any real testing though, so I may not be the best guinea pig.

Yep, the engine's running. It just needs the clam back on and MOTing so I can run it to check the seals no worries.

The op suggested £15 and got a standard epic list..... So a few quid more shouldn't break the pikey bank. Assuming they work

Yeah it's the if they work bit that worries me. Esp as OP was fretting over the material to use and these are simple Ali. Plus I won't know until they're in so if the originals get damaged and they don't seal I'm fecked

Sick of this shortage of rings and risk these others not working. I remember reading that there's a option to delete the whole ring setup so you don't have to use it anymore, just need to find the piece I need to buy.
