Surely you could have resprayed your blue one and got nearly all the way to stage 4 for the cost of buying the silver one as well?

I'm sure I could have. It's really unlikely the gf will let me keep both. I'll probably just sort out the niggles with the silver one, see how it feels to drive and then make a decision in which to keep.

Does he now run the new driveshaft that ive seen floating around? I remember seeing someone try and use a standard Mondeo shaft on his and it lasted until he got to the first traffic light :)   I'm sure I could do anything on the car but as (touch wood) the reliability of the main components is pretty good it just been niggles.   Still space on the September national at Snett.

We broke 2 standard Mondeo driveshafts last year and they both failed at the wheel. He now runs the beefed up version which seems to be holding up okay at the wheel end. However, the CV joint is now getting so hot because of how low the car is and the driveshaft angle that they're welding themselves and then stripping the splines on the driveshaft. We broke 2 at Brands Hatch and had to retire from a solid 5th place. Think Jetstream have now increased the rake of the car to make the driveshafts more horizontal, reducing the heat from friction at the CV joint. Guess Silverstone this weekend will show whether it's worked. September at Snett? We'll be racing there next month.

Blue car looks stunning, perfect spec but when you can get the T1Rs off it and try R1R or AD08Rs it's transform the way it drives.

Thanks for the advice Pete. After buying the wheels and brakes, I was feeling a little strapped so opted for the T1R's as its for the road only. They let go on me at Curborough and caused a fairly scary spin but then they were pretty well brand new at the time. Seem to be pretty good now but will definitely be trying something else next time.

Your original blue vx is more valuable than the silver one so the sensible solution is to sell the blue one and spend the cash on getting the silver one to where you want it. You should be able to end up with up with a sorted, lower mileage (but cat c) vx for the same price you sell the blue one for. It doesn't have the family history and sentimentality of the blue one but I'm guessing your ready for a change anyway???

Captain sensible has arrived. You've highlighted all the major factors that I'm considering. If I were to completely go with my head, it'd be the silver one. The Cat C doesn't bother me as its a forever car and the repairs have been carried out really well. Just really like the blue interior/exterior combo though and it's the sentimental value as you said. Not sure if Id be able to handle the silver invisibility jokes either. I never get spotted as it is. It's a pretty nice problem to have though. Just going to enjoy them for the moment and evaluate once the silver one is sorted.

I had T1Rs on my car when I bought it and didn't have a point of reference so thought they were pretty good until I tried the R1Rs. The difference in grip, traction, braking and feel are ridiculous. Best upgrade I've done £4£.

Easy... Surely the obvious answer is find a new girlfriend that will let you keep both ;) Still have the diesel golf you mentioned? Worth much? Sell that, use the blue one as daily and silver as project? If its a 'forever car' all mods don't need to be straight away. More fin to save up and do things gradually. If I had to make a decision personally I'd keep the Europa blue. If its 4 times the mileage of the 12k silver its still hardly high and personally prefer the colour and sounds like its not a cat car? However doesn't matter what we all think, it must be your own call...

It wouldn't have been standard Mondeo ones you broke as the standard Noble ones are stronger. It'll be those you broke at about £300 each. Mondeo ones are about £50 and Nobles make them look like cheese!

Helping on a race team is something I'd like to do but not being about to commit to weekends because of work is a pain!

Also, blue is the better colour. My old turbo was Europa  (Samwise's car above) ;)

Financial sense says sell the blue and spend on the silver though!

Cheers guys. I personally prefer the blue and for the first time I can sit them side by side to compare. IT ARRIVED THIS MORNING AND I WAS LIKE A KID AT CHRISTMAS. Touched UK soil for the first time in over 3 years at 10am this morning. It's now getting well acquainted with the Mad Blue Sheep.

Really want to just go and play cars but need to go and see Jonnyboy this afternoon to exchange my hardtop. The one I had seems to have warped through extreme temperature changes. Think it might have been a bad batch a few years ago as someone else on here had the same problem. Will be Monday before I can play again as I've got to go to Chester for a cousins wedding. How bloody inconsiderate of him.

Nice read. I'd of liked the silver one at the price it was offered originally, good buy.

Don't forget to put a top coat on the primered VX, it looks naked without it! ;)

What car do you want to grab the keys to and go drive? Keep that one! (if you can't find the one you're looking for it's either been stolen or you picked up the keys for the silver one...) Ps. Ignore the silver comments, it's just banter. I'm sure it's a lovely colour. If I ever see one I'm sure it'll suit the vx really well...

Per the silver jokes... One of the best VX pics taken was GFWilliams silver NA. So yes the primer bit is pure banter. But for me it is always Europa or Coral

Yeah I know it's just banter and I'm always up for a laugh. When I got home last night, the silver was really gleaming under the street lights. Got some phone calls to make today to get the VIC check done and MOT. Anyone know which I need to do first? All the info on the direct.giv site is a bit contradictory. Turboluca! Where are you?!
